I like to think I am a thoughtful, kind, pragmatic fellow on my best days. On my worst days, I'm just another jerk. Wishing you a blessed day.

Wait, the Secretary of Health and Human Services thinks that fetuses are inside the placenta during pregnancy? That's absolutely wild!

I'm not sure what the objection is regarding Senators being part of a criminal investigation when there is reasonable cause. It speaks to the integrity of the investigation that, as far as I know, nothing politically damaging or materially irrelevant to the Jan 6 case was leaked about any Senator.

This administration is a bunch of incompetent and buffoonish yes men. But, of course, they'll live their elite Beltway lifestyle no matter how much they screw things up, while ordinary Americans will pay the price for their abject stupidity and fecklessness.

Counterpoint: It would make a nice target to piss on.

Those coins look perfectly designed ... to piss on.

Without resentment of minority groups, Walsh doesn't have anything to say. He'll keep getting worse because he doesn't have a viable path to keep his profession without saturating his audience with base racism and prejudice. What other talent would he fall back on? There's no there there.

Not *that* kind of conservativism, Patrick! They want the "f**k your feelings but don't you dare give even the slightest challenge to my feelings" version of "conservativism."

And we all would have agreed that deploying the military under present circumstances was an impeachable act that merited conviction in the Senate.

Invite them to campus and see if they can pass a college algebra exam. ;)

Yes, but also these ideas spread through culture. It doesn't make sense to "blame" South Park, but there's a dynamic here that goes both ways. South Park succeeded because it captured a cultural mood, but it also shaped the culture by virtue of its success, exposing more viewers to that mood.

Seems like Republicans have an agenda they want to implement in the showdown (slashing government) and the Democrats are going with a "please proceed governor" strategy. Not sure who "wins" this battle, but that seems to be the dynamics.
headasploding.bsky.social
I think the Republicans are looking to shut down the government primarily because they want to fire (a lot) more government workers by executive fiat.

Well we can really save our kids by keeping Big Milk away from our babies and Big Water away from our toddlers. It's too much liquid!

Allegedly there is tape of him accepting the money, but this is from media reports, not court testimony or even filed charges.

I think it would be funny if they put up a placard with some generic defense of free speech uttered by Kirk or simply the entire statement of the First Amendment, followed by a note: "Statue required, under penalty of fine, pursuant to Oklahoma Senate Bill 1187."

Typical Trump derangement syndrome to blame this on Trump! Canada also had an unfavorable opinion of the US from 2017-2020. 😉

Oh, but you are so wrong, Patrick. Their shirts said "F**k YOUR Feelings," not "F**k MY Feelings!" Big difference! You assume they believe that the rules that apply to them must be the same as the rules that apply to others, but they reject that entirely.
headasploding.bsky.social
Right. And your statement is false because it is true. Or is it true because it is false? :)

Yeah, I think that the whitewashing / martyrdom are somewhat inevitable, and I don't know that online debates are going to change that. It's probably good for society that we elevate victims of assassination as a disincentivize people from doing it. But yeah, I get where you're coming from too.
headasploding.bsky.social
I'm just sad that a human being was brutally assassinated and I have a heavy heart for his two young children growing up without a dad. And yes, I know that terrible things happen to a lot of non-public figures and we don't ceremonialize their tragedies, but that's still where the focus should be.

I'm of two minds here. I don't think now is the time or place to lambast Kirk's politics or public practices. He was part of an industry that is, let's be honest, not exactly commendable in its behavior. But I agree that lionizing with a false portrayal of what he did isn't the right way either.
headasploding.bsky.social
Needless to say, this all too common generalization of "everybody on my side is good" and "everybody on the other is bad" is very harmful and pernicious.

I don't have any answers. But I know that I don't want to be an agent of anger and resentment. I want to be a channel of peace. A voice of hope. A creator of unity. Let's strive to lead by example to create the change we wish to see. Too many have sacrificed too much for us to give up on America.
