Wir hätten die Ukraine bewaffnen können. Wäre sie vor zehn Jahren Mitglied der Nato gewesen, gäbe es keinen Krieg. Krieg mit Russland vermeiden Sie durch Abschreckung, indem Sie klarmachen, dass der Preis einer Invasion zu hoch ist. Warum sind die Russen nicht in Lettland einmarschiert? Weil Lettland zur Nato gehört. Ich glaube immer noch, dass der Krieg im ersten Jahr hätte gewonnen werden können. Die Ukraine hätte genug Territorium zurückerobern können, um die Russen davon zu überzeugen, die Kämpfe einzustellen.
Aber wir haben nicht genug getan. Und ich glaube immer noch, dass Europa nicht ganz verstanden hat, was nötig ist, um Russland zu stoppen.
