I've added a new song video to my YouTube channel: Erlinton (Child 8, Roud 24). I found it in the Sing Yonder books (Vol 3) and intended to use @karlsinfield.bsky.social tune & words from the book, but on holiday an idea for a different tune came to me instead!

Can I be exempt, please? I really don't want to return to those godforsaken days of phone calls/mailed letters/faxes and doing loads of paperwork. Not to mention not being able to easily look up how to bleed a radiator or replace the door mirror indicator light on my car.

Last weekend was great fun. My birthday present (from back in June) from my sister was for the two of us to watch Les Misérables at Sondheim Theatre in London. I've wanted to see it for years and it did not disappoint. Stunning and moving and everything I hoped it would be!

It bloody hurts when you step off the kerb and some eejit comes whizzing past with no bike lights and wearing all black. Heck, when I'm on my bike even my bright yellow helmet has embedded lights. But there again back in the 70s/80s we were taught it was an offence to cycle at night without lights.

I absolutely love being involved in this and it's a privilege to be among such a wonderful bunch of people. If you love folk songs, it's well worth listening to.

Thanks to @mattquinnmusic.bsky.social for his dedication in creating the @intheroud.bsky.social podcasts 🤗

When you're sitting outside a #Dorset pub with a pint and discover the river next to it is called the River Jordan you can't help but hear Bellowhead's Jordan in your head. On repeat! 😊
Image shows a shallow river in an English village. There are reeds growing on the river banks and on the left a willow tree overhangs the water. It is a sunny day and a light blue sky is visible through the trees.

It's #BandcampFriday, the day when the lovely @bandcamp.com waives its commission! If you pop by my Bandcamp store there are my unaccompanied folk songs. And if you join my mailing list you'll be first to hear about new releases too, including one coming soon in September

Another gorgeous night, this time with a full moon. Apparently the July #FullMoon is called the #BuckMoon.
(You can tell my age as I tend to think of it as the Buck Rogers moon! 🤭😁)
Image shows a night sky. In the background is a dark greyish blueish sky with a few clouds. A bright full moon is in the centre of the image and to the right and left are trees. In the foreground is a garden fence with a field beyond it. Image shows a zoomed-in image of the July full moon, known as the Buck Moon. The photo was taken by me, Helen.

That's a beautiful night sky out there tonight! Almost a full moon but not quite.

A brilliant chat with @benratkinson.bsky.social on Zoom today which could lead to some future possible projects. Do check him and his music out!

It looked lovely in our rural Lincolnshire garden but far too hot to sit - at 5.30pm it was still a massive 35°C (95°F). It had cooled around 9pm to a less unbearable 25°C so I sat out until 10pm when it got too dark to read without a light and the bitey bugs came out!
#Summer
Image shows a hand holding a wall thermometer in a garden on a sunny afternoon. At 5.30pm the temperature was still 35 degrees C (96 degrees F). Image shows a garden on a late summer evening as it's getting dark. There is a table in the foreground with a book on it (Mythology of the British Isles by Geoffrey Ashe). In the background it's possible to make out a fence and beyond that a dry yellow field.

I am not listing all the instruments I own. It's a tad excessive 😂

That's the benefit of a instrument you can change the tuning on!

I am going to be selling one or two. Certainly my first 4/4 fiddle is going as I never even get it out the case these days! And I've just reminded myself that I've got 3 others needing attention in the back of a wardrobe (I seem to remember a 1/2, a 3/4, and a 7/8 in the box!)

No sooner has season 4 episode 2 of the @intheroud.bsky.social folk song podcast been released than @mattquinnmusic.bsky.social asked me back to record another one! They're great fun to do, even if we always spend so much time talking that Matt has a huge editing task 😂

Helen is on the left of the image and is wearing a white t shirt, silver pendant and a white, yellow, and green paisley jacket (part of her large collection of patterned jackets!) Matt is on the right of the image wearing headphones and a black T-shirt shirt. Both are sitting in front of microphones.

A super night at Royal Traditions Folk Club near Sheffield with my folk chums. The Dungworth Singers performance was fab: many great songs - their polyphonic song gave me goosebumps. Lots of singing/playing in the session & singaround too.
Thanks to @jonboden.bsky.social & team for a great night 😊

A wee reminder this is what I’ve been writing with @ericamarks.bsky.social while unemployed. Appreciate any preorders for it on Amazon Kindle — if not, a RT would be awesome, thank you!

Another fine birthday present that I received on Sunday. This is what happens when your family know you like @yorkshiretea.bsky.social!
