Hello, it's me, Kali, half of @gemroomgames.bsky.social! You may know me from DUKK BÖRG, Letters to Sandra, 9 Lives to Valhalla, or occasional parenting & art stuff. I'm usually tired!
honestly offensive that neti pots are marketed like this when I only use mine with an achingly red nose, salt water dripping out my mouth because I'm too stuffy for it to go out the intended channel

There is no reason for weapons like these to exist. None.
“Four of my children just evaporated,” Badran said, holding back tears. “I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?”

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.
Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate
US-made thermal weapons burning at 3,500C caused 2,842 people to "evaporate" in Gaza, Al Jazeera investigation finds.

late last year, I think, there was a great thread breaking down point by point why NYC schools incorporating AI was poorly planned & inappropriate.
I'm trying to write to my own school district & would like to borrow some points but can't find it. Does it ring a bell to anyone?

I wanna know about the confetti cannons at the super bowl.
They must be ready with both team colors, but does that mean double sets of confetti guns ready to go? Or giant sacks of confetti in each color pairing ready to hook up at the last second? If there's a last second upset are they scrambling?

We got an antenna so we can watch sports & I'm cruising channels trying to figure out what they are when I stumble on a Designing Women marathon, talking about the false conflict between working/stay at home moms (it's all work!) & it's still funny & surprisingly timely even when they bring in a

I will wait YEARS, eagerly, for something written by an author who has caught my attention with their own unique voice.
In the meantime there are endless other books with unique voices, ideas, perspectives. Why fill my wait time with slop when I could fill it with gold?
I'm going to win.

My child has been home sick for two days now and while I love my child more than I can say, I have also been hearing "mama, mama, [monologue or request]" every few seconds for long enough while trying to keep up any semblance of my usual weekday that it feels like I'm going to lose my mind

I finally got out of the house to attend craft night at the community center and I'm the only person here 😭
How do you reinvigorate a club when you were attending to meet people in your city in the first place and have no one to invite?

I went out to do some yardwork (front yard looks much nicer now) wearing boots that fit snugly & go up to my calf.

So how did a slug get all the way to my foot, I ask you.

you know, I've never been particularly good at tetris, even for mind soothing/trauma dealing purposes.

but I quite like suika game, and figure it must have at least some amount of beneficial overlap. If nothing else it helps my body calm down, helps me breathe.

Oh.

I spent many, many years wanting to be Catherine O'Hara, or even a smidge of her.

How lucky we are to have gotten so much of her.

these calendars are very cool, btw.
I've got an assortment of stamps ready to pick from as soon as this month ends and January becomes a cool art postcard with which I can send some love to a friend.
Please help me get these calendars out of my face
I've discounted all my calendars, even if January is basically over you can still use the calendar page as a postcard and have 11 other months to use the rest of it

Also I put a bunch of new painted wood banners up if you missed the chance last month

I browned butter for rice crispy treats & then watched watched a documentary about the scope of the universe & cried because our existing at all is such a miraculous fluke & we spend that hurting each other? What a gratuitous waste of our precious time that would be better spent browning butter

Mortality rates:

Mifepristone: 0.65/100,000
Penicillin 2/100K
Viagra 4/100K

Pregnancy in the US: 22/100,000 (some states see rates >60/100K)

More people have died in ICE detention centers already in 2026 than will die from mifepristone all year. These politicians are extremely dangerous to women.
Rep. Chris Smith: "The abortion pill -- mifepristone -- is baby poison ... we now know that the abortion bill -- we've long expected this -- is extremely dangerous to women" (this is a lie)

maybe the path to things like UBI is to just keep running experiments. More experiments. Bigger experiments. More, and bigger, and more, until basically we've done it without objectors realizing it has happened.

I was born & raised in LA, worked on/off broadway and in hollywood, met lots of celebrities, normal people, whatever.

Only celebrity who ever left me speechless was Ann M. Martin in, I think, 4th grade at a Scholastic warehouse book signing. I couldn't even look at her I was so awed.
Scholastic, which launched the Baby-sitters Club line in 1986, celebrates the 40th anniversary of Ann M. Martin’s iconic series with a trio of new books buff.ly/6eKAKWU

and it takes SECONDS to do.

Seriously, it took literally 42 seconds for me to hammer this message in again with a call. 42 seconds.
PSA: You do NOT have "until Jan 30th" to call your reps about ICE. The House is voting on the DHS appropriations bill TODAY (1/22) 🚨🚨

Someday - someday! - I will make a food without my children grimacing "not to my taste 😬"

Tonight's strikeout: creamy tomato soup and grilled cheese.

It really is rather good.
classic grilled cheese + cream of tomato soup
Better-than-classic tomato soup with a depth and complexity that makes it a forever favorite. Plus, grilled cheese sandwiches, as unfussy as they should be.

Just look at it.

drives me nuts when a recipe is called like "Smoky [food that requires heavy seasoning for sufficient flavor]" and the "smoky" turns out to be like 1/8 tsp of smoked paprika in a vat of food
