We filed our appeal in Hachette v. Internet Archive yesterday. If we are unsuccessful in our fight, libraries won’t be allowed to own and lend digital books, only license them from big media corporations. Why is that bad for YOU? 🧵in comments blog.archive.org/2023/12/15/i...

I’m sorry it’s just so fucking funny that they built an entire AI just to give them the answer they wanted to this question and they couldn’t even do it

You’re not the only one who feels like you’re losing your mind. Everyone I talk to has said this to me. This world is taking a toll on all of us, even those who are trying not to pay attention. Let this connect you to other people in solidarity rather than isolate you.

Just goes to show, this is a losing game. Republicans will not win in this silly war.

Cops no longer really feel like it's important to actually perform their jobs. They understand the police department as basically a jobs program for their friends and families and the less safe things get the more jobs and funding emerge, so
"The evidence is clear: Police departments across the country are solving far fewer crimes than they did before 2020." (via @jeffasher.bsky.social in NYT today) www.nytimes.com/2023/12/05/o...

Someone from this group is running for a school board position in my city, and honestly, I'm disgusted by their behavior. We need more Moms Against Moms For Liberty fighting the good fight
The co-founder of the intensely homophobic Moms for Liberty org has been outed as engaging in... gay sex.

And that outing happened because her Florida GOP Chair husband raped her sex partner.

Real cute stuff from the censorship and book ban lobby.
Curtains for Moms for Liberty: The fallout of a rape charge shows the far-right group is floundering
Gov. Ron DeSantis bet big on the book banners, but after electoral losses, even he's pushing them out the door

It certainly feels like this, and it bugs me that I have no idea what I can do to change this. Voting at a federal level feels hopeless. I paid attention in the last local election and the outcome has been favorable and meaningful on a small scale. I wish the same could happen at the top.

the most deeply insulting part of the racist trolley problem is that - in a world facing the nightmare in Gaza, global warming, and countless other issues - the thing most concerning to our tech overlords is that they aren’t allowed to say the N word

I'm staying at a hotel, and the desk attendant gave me a free room upgrade because I was nice to her when she told me the elevator was broken. Wild that the bar was so low for that interaction. How many times was she yelled at for something out of everyone's control?
