Did a magnificent 2km swim @ Kailua Bay this morning. A school of dolphins passed directly below me + saw a small ray swimming by. Visibility was fantastic! Doing a swim during the #Kona #IRONMAN week is always an experience. ❤️ #Hawaii 🌴🤙
Pier in downtown Kona. Starting point of the Kona IRONMAN. A tiny bit of beach sand is visible to the right. A few people are standing in the turquoise water towards the left. Lot of people on the pier. Mostly blue sky and a few palms in the background. View of the ocean. Several yellow and black IRONMAN swim buoys visible in the water. A bit of coastline and clouds visible in the background. Some swimmers visible in the distance. View of the sea wall towards the left in downtown Kona. A street is visible to the right. A huge green tree is visible in the middle of the picture with a hotel building to the right. Blue sky above. An art installation of some sorts in a lawn area showing the logos of IRONMAN events in years past. Blue sky with some white clouds above.

One important improvement in #Kamal 2.x is that #curl is no longer required for your #Docker images in order to perform health checks. That way way you can use slim base images, e.g. @bellsoft.bsky.social 's Alpaquita based image for Liberica #Java, e.g. jdk-25-cds-slim-musl ☕.

Finally upgraded my #SpringBoot app from #Kamal 1.x (Traefik based Proxy) to Kamal 2.7 (uses Kamal Proxy). Was battling a bit with some weird SSL Handshake errors but it is working now 🎉. Configuration looks much simpler. "kamal deploy" using cheap VPS hosts rocks 🤘. #java

New from 404 Media: Google removed an ICE-spotting app too. Called Red Dot, an immigration support group on the ground in Chicago told me it was using it. Google now removed, just like Apple did with ICEBlock after DOJ pressure. Google calls ICE vulnerable group

Google Calls ICE Agents a Vulnerable Group, Removes ICE-Spotting App ‘Red Dot’
The move comes as Apple removed ICEBlock after direct pressure from U.S. Department of Justice officials and signals a broader crackdown on ICE-spotting apps.

W/likely persistence of highly anomalously warm nearshore & offshore ocean surface temperatures in NE Pacific for at least another couple of weeks, days & esp nights will continue to be mild in places w/coastal influence & any inbound storms may have more moisture vs usual. #CAwx
Map from NOAA Coral Reef Watch depicting sea surface temperatures across the NE Pacific Ocean. Along the CA coast and far to the west, they are depicted as being far warmer than average.

It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.

OMG. Tom Homan was reportedly under FBI investigation for taking $50,000 in cash allegedly in exchange for a commitment to steer government contracts to a specific company. The entire thing was recorded, as it was an FBI sting operation.

The Trump admin dropped the investigation entirely.
Tom Homan was investigated for accepting $50,000 from undercover FBI agents. Trump's DOJ shut it down.
The FBI and Justice officials closed the investigation, which a Justice Department appointee had called a “deep state” probe in early 2025.

India has broken my graph.
30 GW of renewables added so far this year, ahead of 28.6 GW for all of 2024.

Oracle detaches #GraalVM from the Java SE train 👀
• JDK 24 = last with Graal JIT / GraalVM in Java SE
• Native Image discontinued for #Java SE (-> Leyden)
• GraalVM team pivots to non-Java (GraalPy, GraalJS)
👉 Java devs: migrate to C2 JIT & track Leyden AOT work

I've been working on #climate issues for years, but every now and then I step back & think how unbelievable (and sad) it is that scientists have shown for decades we're literally changing — in a bad way — the climate of the entire planet and yet society refuses to deal with that existential threat.
