While I am still waiting for my #MacBook Pro's motherboard to be replaced (coding on Windows right now 😳), I have been watching a few videos on www.youtube.com/@lapfix on how they recover data from macs. Quite unnerving. Anyone developing software using @frame.work laptops? Any complaints?

A little bit of irony when Geeksoutfit is incapable of stuffing a T-shirt into a USPS envelope bound to #Hawaii 🥁🥁 "due to policy issues". Global company but Hawaii is too remote? ☠️. #enshittification

After some minor #Java imports-renaming-bingo, I finally updated my app to #SpringBoot 4 🎉. Some minor issues around Jackson 3 & Hibernate 7. Happy that it was fairly straight-forward!

Planted a Kepel tree seedling (Stelechocarpus burahol). 1 out of 5 seeds had germinated (Took almost a year). Got the seeds in July 2024. A truly spectacular tree (from SE Asia, Malesia). The flowers and fruits are directly on the trunk (cauliflory) and the fruit is edible.

I'm seeing claims that progress was made at #COP30, but it really wasn't. Each passing year with no fossil fuel phaseout comes at great opportunity cost as we further burn through the vanishing carbon budget that remains for averting dangerous warming. See my commentary: michaelmann.net/bad-cop/

You don’t actually learn things from ChatGPT et al in the same way you do through reading and thinking. Parents, you must absolutely stress this to your kids or they will be disadvantaged intellectually.

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

The ultimate #Apple #Enshittification - The screen on my M3 MacBook Pro failed 2 weeks ago and got replaced. Today seemingly the macOS Tahoe upgrade fried my motherboard 🎉 and thanks to all the "glue", data from failed Macs is unrecoverable 💀. WTF. Time to look at non-Apple options.

Every code-change == new deployment. Simple + rock solid. IMO the best tool to deploy #Java ( #Spring) web apps to #VPS / bare-metal
