12 dead at a mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach.💔

A 43-year-old father of two, Ahmed al Ahmed, snuck up & tackled a gunman to disarm him. Ahmed was shot twice.

Both Jewish & Muslim faiths teach that “to save one life is to save all humanity.” Let us hold fast to our humanity.❤️

At least he knows those polls he wants would be fake.

I cannot express how dangerous DOJ's actions are to free and fair elections in 2026 and 2028. Access to and the misuse of this data is almost certain to be the central fight for the 2026 midterms. Yet, too few are paying attention and treating this as seriously as they should.

I do hope he's serious about not allowing charter schools - they are a dismal failure wherever they exist and only drain money away from already severely underfunded public schools BUT we could eliminate a lot of duplication of services with #onepublicboard - funding 4 as we do now is ridiculous.

Nathalie Provost concedes progress hasn’t moved as quickly as she’d hoped, but that hasn't rattled her.

Grade 3 and 6 math and literacy EQAO testing results (whenever they are released) are examined at the school level, district-wide and province-wide (spoiler alert: kids living below the poverty line tend to do a lot worse than kids in wealthy neighborhoods).

Also - looking at cohort effects and pretending year over year changes are particularly meaningful is very stupid.

But I'm pointing at the political stupidity of it all. The way the test results are interpreted is silly in general.

EQAO scores weren't down? They went up.

English students:

Gr 9 EQAO had 54% at standard the prior 2 yrs, up to 58%.

Gr 6 Math 50% to 51%
Gr 6 Reading 82% to 86%
Gr 6 Writing 80% to 85%

Gr 3 Math 61% to 64%
Gr 3 Reading 71% to 74%
Gr 3 Writing 64% to 65%

None of this makes any sense whatsoever.
Ontario’s education minister is hiring two advisors at $1,500 a day to review why EQAO results aren’t improving. Critics say the answer is obvious: “we don’t need people making $1,500 a day to tell us scores are down because the government cut funding by $1,500 a student.” #cdnpoli

1. EQAO Data is meaningless so cannot be relied on to improve achievement
2. They're not. Also, many special needs kids are forced to write the EQAO on material theyre not taught due to curriculum modifications
3. Teachers are told not to teach to the test

There. Saved you a million dollars.

Most important statement in this piece: "ETFO reiterated its long-standing call for the government to end the testing program and 'redirect the millions spent on EQAO into classrooms by investing in smaller class sizes and supports that genuinely enhance student learning and well-being.'"

I really hate these school board-shaming propaganda emails from Paul Calandra. "You expect better results for your children, and so do I."
You've been in power seven years. Your "back-to-basics" stuff has only marginally improved EQAO scores? Your answer is a new "advisory body"? On you.

The EQAO tests should be abolished.
“Educators are struggling with large class sizes, increasing workloads, and rising violence in schools, yet the Ford government remains incomprehensibly fixated on meaningless EQAO results,” said ETFO President David Mastin.

know what would raise #EQAO test scores in #OntEd schools?

1) Vulnerable students with complex needs getting the proactive 1:1 EA support they need.

2) Classrooms not being evacuated daily.

3) Not making kids wait 2-4 years for special needs assessments.

Every teacher.
Since EQAO began.
So, EQAO results…
I can tell you without the fancy inquiry committee that the way they’re requiring math be taught—that the scope of curriculum—is not working. They need to fundamentally change the curriculum expectations AND allow teachers to teach what works.
Now: put the $$$ back into schools.
