Related, NANA shareholders have been doing similar protests. I am glad that shareholders in ANCSA corporations are pushing back against working with detention centers.

This is related to other events in the news where shareholders of an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC) protest and petition ANC involvement in contracts with ICE

In this case, its shareholders and descendants of Bering Straits Native Corporation circulating a petition
If you are a BSNC shareholder or shareholder descendant there’s a petition to divest and cease all BSNC activity with ICE before their board meeting this month

I'm in this article. NANA must divest from ICE contracts. They are perverting our Iñupiaq values for greed.

This is truly evil, there is no other words to describe it.

This is white supremacy at the highest levels of Alaska Native leadership.

Fraternities, universities, imperial histories, settler colonialism, and grave-robbing of Indigenous peoples

There are layered atrocities of theft, denial, and performativity using Native bones
There have long been rumors that the Skull and Bones fraternity house in New Haven contains the skull of Apache leader Geronimo.

A researcher unearthed a letter in 2006 that seemed to corroborate that claim.

I found two more letters in Yale’s archives, along with more corroborating evidence.
While we’re on the topic:

Letters I found in Yale archives said Skull and Bones members took Native American remains from a grave in Oklahoma in 1918.

Excellent journalism highlighting how the State of Alaska is failing rural—and predominantly Alaska Native—students.

“over the past 25 years, state officials have largely ignored hundreds of requests by rural school districts to fix the problems that have left public schools across AK crumbling”

I’m feeling very nostalgic for the penny right now and I’m hoping it’s not really the end of this coin

US Mint says it has stamped its last penny, a historic end for a humble coin
The Treasury Department said the last pennies were stamped with a special omega mark and will not go into circulation.
