My favorite type of writer to work with, regardless of genre, topic, or stage of career, is someone whose life experiences have given them a hard-won wisdom they hope to share with others.

the people opposed to Project 2025 think the United States was created to "ensure the blessings of liberty" promised to American citizens in the Constitution, and they'll throw out the exclusive interests and power of white men to achieve that aim.

Really, @azcentral.com? It's bad enough that the world is on fire, but now I have to wake up to an email from you with "Arizonan's" in it?

Have some editorial standards already.

I remember a lecture at the Missionary Training Center from a 50-something woman who'd once been a first runner-up in a Miss Utah pageant all about how if we had skirts with pockets, we could never put our hands in them--it would make our hips look fat.

That's what this reminds me of.

I really don't enjoy watching my country rip out its own heart.

Over and over, we widen the cracks in society, and then punish people when they fall through them.

This man will not be fired for calling for the murder of American citizens, yet multiple journalists/reporters/teachers lost their job for accurately reporting things Charlie Kirk actually said and stood for.

But it’s the “violent left” that’s the problem

as if his death somehow sanctified him & absolved him of his sins.

Being murdered doesn't make the victim a good person. Being murdered just makes someone's death a crime that should not have happened.

It's revolting but unsurprising to watch people who began demonizing Trayvon Martin & George Floyd (& the other black men murdered by police and/or vigilantes) the moment we learned of their deaths insist now it's beyond the pale to say anything bad about Charlie Kirk

The decisions of the Roberts court will be as infamous and reviled as the Dred Scott decision is now.

Previously decent Trump supporters who've let their support for Trump turn them into terrible people are another manifestation of the phenomenon demonstrated by the Milgram Experiment & the Stanford Prison Experiment. Their role requires them to be horrible, & they fulfill that role with relish.

Aren't you glad Mormons discourage tattoos? Imagine leaving the COJCOLDS and having an outline of the Salt Lake Temple on your shoulder or the CTR symbol on your ankle.

I just checked CMOS 18 (which I should have done first). 7.96 says

ex
ex-partner
ex-marine
ex–corporate executive

So I guess it's ex-Mormon for something officially, but yeah, I tend to write exmo when referring to myself

ExMo writers and editors: Let's make a style guide.

Should it be exMormon or ExMormon or Ex-Mormon?

ExMo or exMo or exmo?

I vote exMormon and exMo (or even exmo). But I'd like input from others.

People are remarkably proud of worshiping a god who finds them too sinful & fallen to be allowed in his presence without ~someone~ being tormented.

It's like that old Groucho Marx punchline: They refuse to join any club that would have them as a member.

If you listen to the women and girls victimized by Maxwell say her name, you learn that the S is silent & the vowel in the first syllable is a long e, as in "he." This attack ad, which gets her name wrong, sounds like it creators haven't bothered to listen to any of the victims. 😞

This isn't justice. This is one monster helping out another.

Why didn't someone tell the voice over actor how to pronounce her name? The S is silent and the vowel in the first syllable is a long e, as in he. Now you just sound like you haven't actually listened to any of the victims. The first thing she did was tell them how to pronounce her name.

I'm taking an online course on copyediting because I want to get better at my job. The third question on the midterm involves the preferred style for writing the name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

For once, my decades of writing about Mormonism have come in handy! #exmo

It's not my greatest achievement, but I'm nonetheless THRILLED to have succeeded in getting a full course of antibiotics in my elderly dog as of this morning. I don't have to try to trick her into swallowing them again. YAY

I am continually struck by how much Trump sounds like my father as his Alzheimer's became advanced--all these weird tangents, self-interruptions, repetition, & even the weird chuckling. Trump's dementia seems more advanced than Biden's, & it endangers us all.

Trump’s mental decline is undeniable — so what now?
