It's been a very long time since Britain faced a real invasion. The Nazis tried and failed.

But millions have come here from abroad over the centuries. They didn't invade us, they joined us. They made Britain their home, worked alongside us, shared our values, and helped build the country we know today.
This is Britain's story; people arriving from many different places and becoming part of our nation. From the Normand to the Huegonots, from Irish and Jewish migrants to those who came from the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Europe, each community has added to our society.

There is no true thing as a "true Briton". We are all from migrant stock - and for that we can be both proud and thankful.

Britain's history has been enriched by migrants.
