Oooh, I did some cleanup work there once. I believe one of the bishops who set it up was also the owner of the first printing press to come into the country if I recall correctly.

Minidiscs weren’t ever really touted heavily outside of Japan; they never really got the momentum to fall into that category, and I think that would be true of a lot of other format war things (DVD-A yes it was an audio format not a South Park joke or Beta).

3D is one example - every high-end TV and Blu-ray player was shipping with it, and it was one of the key reasons for a bump in the HDMI standard (1.3 to 1.4 IIRC).
