I knew it would be bad, but... so bad! So quickly!
Promoting the editor-in-chief's personal side project. Zero named sources in a story that promotes the editor-in-chief's personal political position. Misspelling the subject's name. It took one day for CBS News to become a conservative blog.

I used to think people just didn’t understand what Columbus did but now I think some are really attached to him (as opposed to other worthy italians to celebrate) because their whole thing is not only getting away with doing horrible things but forcing everyone to praise them for being horrible

Just in case the dramatically low Leni Riefenstahl-style angle was too subtle, they used a word from her most famous movie

Collect a claim from one side, collect a claim from the other, present them both to the reader with an awkward shrug and a "who can say?"

And the photo choice -- Noem's looking down ... on what? The reverse angle showed a small crowd and a quiet street. But can't show that, it's biased to one side!
A classic case of irresponsible both-sidesism from the NYT. The story is that Trump and MAGA propagandists are lying about Portland to incite a conflict, not that there are different views of the matter.

Just to be clear, this is EXACTLY what Pete Hegseth said, word for word, on video in a formal announcement:

“We’re signing a letter of acceptance to BUILD A QATARI AIR FORCE FACILITY at the Mountain Home Airbase.”

Important thread:
I am writing this because it has swiftly become crystal clear to me that many people have no idea what is happening or how this works. Here is a thread for non-academics to put into context what just happened to Dr. Mark Bray, a fellow historian.

The random people who called into this C-SPAN session had better questions for Mike Johnson than most corporate media outlets
C-SPAN caller to Mike Johnson: "Hearing you say that 'everyone is smiling' in cities where troops have been rolled into feels dystopian and insane watching the response to it."

Newsom signed SB79! So, so huge. Enormous props to all the people who worked so hard, for so long, to make this happen, above all @scottwiener.bsky.social. It's going to change California, and the country.

It's hilarious, the farther right you go in media, the dumber & more thumb-faced the on-air "talent." I mean, this is just reactionary Mad Libs! Just a buzz-word stew.
Newsmax host to Rep. Rich McCormick: "You've seen this whole game, how illegal immigrants come into the ER with sniffles and they get to benefit from Medicaid, but Democrats are blaming Republicans for the increase in healthcare [costs]."

That's right. Laugh right at these sweaty losers and double down on the peaceful protests against them.

Dimwit Operative as Gauleiter Executive
News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

All these anxious billionaires....
“It’s become quite difficult to hide one’s money,” Thiel said, according to the recordings. “An incredible machinery of tax treaties, financial surveillance, and sanctions architecture has been constructed.” Wealth gives the “illusion of power and autonomy,” Thiel added, according to the recordings, “but you have this sense it could be taken away at any moment.”

Affluent accelerate; strapped consumers stall #econsky
Two economies:

B of A data shows lower-income consumer spending growing at 0.6%

Higher-income growing at 4x that. “That’s fairly significant.”

He’s trying to do to Portland and Democratic cities what he did with caravans. It worked until people got tired of him. As long as Trump is the messenger and the rest of the media contradicts him, he’s exposed because people know he’s a liar and fabulist.

Letitia James and James Comey have the best lawyers on earth and will almost certainly be fine. The fact that there’s a zillion stories about them and virtually none about NSPM-7 - which affects countless ordinary people - really says something about who the media writes for
