No doubt.

I get tired driving it on the Thruway.

I think they could travel by boat from NYC to Utica, then it was either boat to Oswego and hike from Niagara to Buffalo, or march from Utica to Buffalo.

There was so much marching from Sackett's Harbor (Fort Drum today) to Fort Niagara and back during the war, it was insane.

Winter and summer.

OTD 1812. Niagara River cont'd.

Both sides attempt to control the two vessels, exchanging fire all day long. DETROIT is cut adrift, and sinks off Tonawanda.

Elliot's force captured CALEDONIA, weapons and pelts, for the cost of two men.

OTD 1812. Niagara River.

Caught by the current, Elliot attempts to land DETROIT and CALEDONIA at Black Rock, all the while under fire of the British batteries at Fort Erie.

LtCol Winfield Scott's artillery provides counter battery fire from Squaw Island and Black Rock.

Elliot's raiding force boarded the British vessels, HMS DETROIT and HMS CALEDONIA, rescuing American prisoners taken at Detroit, and capturing RN sailors.

As Elliot made for the lake, the British began firing on the purloined vessels which were hampered by a lack of wind.

OTD 1812. Buffalo Creek, cont'd.
At 0100 Lt Jesse Elliot and his raiding party begin paddling across the swift waters of the mouth of the Niagara to "cut out" two British ships full of cargo bound for Lower Canada and London.

They're in small flat-bottomed lake craft called bateaux.

Dim memories tell me that the rubberized floor cover, door cards, and bench seats were all a shade of brown. (GM shade)

IIRC, the dash would have been that same color, but exposed metal interior surfaces behind the seats, and inside the doors were CARC green.

Hope this helps/isn’t too late.

“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.”

“A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both.”

A quote attributed to Peter the Great. On this day in 1708, he led Russian forces to victory against the Swedish army at the Battle of Lesnaya.

You don’t really know your cat loves you until she’s standing with her full weight on her bony feet on top of your pacemaker, and extends her claws to start making biscuits.

A real wake-up.

Thank you, David Simon!

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.
