something quite brain-melting about the hard right's position apparently now being "we hate all Muslims and distrust Muslim states, aside from that one Muslim place that still has slavery because that sounds fun"

“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.

Yep! (The name derives from the city of Hamburg and has nothing to do with the meat ham.)

Her armour's different in every shot too (for some people this will be easier to spot than the facial differences).

Counter-proposal: as "burger" isn't a word that actually has anything to do with meat (hamburgers are named after the city of Hamburg in Germany)...

we should call every non-vegetarian burger a "fleshburger".

(This will definitely not offend or bother anyone.)
annastrolenberg.volteuropa.org
Today the EU parliament voted to ban the word burger if they are made with plant protein, instead of animal protein. 🤦🏻‍♀️

They claim it’s to stop consumers being ‘confused between meat and plant products’ - solving a problem that nobody had!

This new rule leaves a bad taste in the mouth…

Hamburgers were never made with ham - they're named after the city of Hamburg! There is no reason for them to be made from meat!

For the uninitiated: The pope being this direct and explicit to U.S. bishops about how to respond to a domestic policy happening in real time is…unusual.

Pope Leo told U.S. bishops visiting him at the Vatican on Wednesday that they should firmly address how immigrants are being treated by President Donald Trump's hardline policies, attendees said, in the latest push by the pontiff on the issue. For @reuters.com:

And they don't even know the difference between principals and principles... yet they call themselves journalists?

I'm somewhat relieved to see the Commisison originally proposed to ban "only 'bacon' and names of animals and their parts". However, an amendment calling for bans on "'steak', 'escalope', 'sausage', 'burger', 'hamburger', 'egg yolk', and 'egg white'" seems to have passed after that.
hutchingsmusic.bsky.social
Banning "burger" for vegetarian food would be particularly ridiculous, given that the word "hamburger" comes from the city of Hamburg in Germany (not from the meat) and therefore linguistically it just means "from a city".
hutchingsmusic.bsky.social
"Renew’s Barry Cowen (Ireland) failed to secure enough support for a softer alternative that would only ban names “explicitly tied” to animals, such as “beef”, “chicken” and “hamburger”."

HAMBURGER COMES FROM THE CITY OF HAMBURG NOT FROM THE MEAT HAM, YOU DOLT

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.
