I'm deeply concerned to hear of the Government's decision to cut funding for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) from the academic year 2026 to 2027 in state schools.

Please see here my statement on this.
I'm deeply concerned to hear of the Government's decision to cut funding for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) from the academic year 2026 to 2027 in state schools.

I know this will be a huge worry for parents of students at Impington Village College, which was named Comprehensive School of the Year 2025 by the Sunday Times – in significant part due to its excellent IB provision.

Currently, only 20 state schools in England offer the IB Diploma Programme. Rather than expanding access to this world-class qualification, the Government is heading in the opposite direction, and completely against their promise to deliver a 'broad and bold' curriculum. Impington's success demonstrates the value of the IB's broad curriculum, which combines arts and sciences with critical thinking and community service. These are exactly the well-rounded young people our economy needs.

I will be writing to the Education Secretary to demand she immediately reverses this short-sighted decision.

Everyone deserves access to excellent care right until the very end of their lives. Our hospices, not our overstretched hospitals, should be properly supported to provide this. It's time for the government to see through its ambition before it's too late.

2. Provide long-term, sustainable funding through the Integrated Care Board for the hospice's specialist palliative care services;

3. Ensure the NHS 10 Year Plan supports hospices as essential providers of specialist end-of-life care, freeing up hospital beds for people with treatable conditions.

Last week, I and fellow Cambs Liberal Democrat MPs, Charlotte Cane and Pippa Heylings, wrote to Health Secretary Wes Streeting urging him to:

1. Restore the funding deficit to ensure all 23 beds at the Arthur Rank Hospice remain open;

As Hospice UK said, unless there is bold, long-term change to how hospices are funded by the NHS locally, hospice services will decrease - and this runs directly counter to the Government's 10-year health plan which aims to provide more care in the community and ease pressure on hospital beds.

Our visit came on the same day that data from the charity @hospiceuk.bsky.social reveals that one in five hospices in England have a deficit of more than £1 million, while many are cutting services.

Today, alongside my Lib Dem colleague @charlotte-cane-mp.bsky.social MP, I visited the @arthurrankhospice.bsky.social saw the wonderful facilities, and met with Deputy CEO Sara Robins. The hospice is set to lose almost £1 million in funding next year, leading to a loss of 9 out of its 23 beds.

I regularly meet with the police, and we are keen to give residents the opportunity to talk to us in person in an informal setting about concerns they may have. The police will also be able to give advice around reporting crimes, which is so important in tackling these issues.

SAVE THE DATE: ⏰Please join me, local police officers and councillors on Saturday 18th October, 10-12pm, to raise any concerns you may have about crime and safety issues in Histon, Impington and Orchard Park.

My thoughts today are with all those whose lives were brutally taken two years ago today, with their families, and with the hostages who continue to be held by Hamas.
eddavey.libdems.org.uk
Two years ago, we watched in horror those appalling scenes of Hamas’s evil terrorist attack on Israel.
“Two years ago, we watched in horror those appalling scenes of Hamas’s evil terrorist attack on Israel. 1,200 innocent people brutally slain, including hundreds of young people at a music festival. Others raped, sexually assaulted and mutilated. 251 people taken hostage, ripped away from their families.
“Those terror attacks also triggered a shocking rise in antisemitism here in the UK – a terrible scourge that took the lives of Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz at their synagogue last week.
“We stand in solidarity with British Jews, the people of Israel and Jewish communities around the world against terrorism and against antisemitism in all its forms.
“This cycle of violence has gone on for far too long, caused far too much suffering and claimed far too many innocent lives.
“With new peace talks under way, we desperately hope that they will finally see the hostages returned home to their families, a lasting bilateral ceasefire, Hamas out of power in Gaza for good." Ed Davey

I am still very much enjoying making the most of the Conference Recess break to get out and about in the constituency. Here is my weekly roundup of some highlights from last week across St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire 👇

My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community.

I understand Cambridgeshire Police are in contact with our local Jewish community to provide advice and reassurance. There is no place for hatred of any kind in our community, and we stand with our Jewish neighbours.

I too am shocked and saddened by the horrific attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester today. That this happened on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more appalling.

The hospice provides wonderful care to families, enabling people to die with dignity whilst receiving professional, caring support for themselves and their loved ones.
