Snippets from Comtiq magazine's big RPG special in its September 1986 issue - and the Lodoss tabletop session serializations.

At this time, with Dragon Quest just hitting Famicom (and initially selling poorly), RPGs are still synonymous with computers and D&D, just as they were outside of Japan.
"RPGs have become synonymous with PC games, but their origins lie in Dungeons & Dragons, which was created in the United States in 1974. Over the next few months, we'll be simultaneously broadcasting live on the magazine, showing how a few people play this original RPG using a rulebook, dice, and paper. So, what's in store for the first instalment?" The introduction for the Record of Lodoss War RPG session journaling and 'What are RPGs and D&D' tutorialining with an illustration of a sword and snake.
