Hello Bluesky fish people! My name is Peter and I love all things fish. I am hoping to one day work with fish. My favorite thing to do is catch and release Flathead Catfish in and around Philadelphia.

Second annual sturgeon fishing trip was a huge success last weekend! Plenty of action throughout the day with a fun mix of adult and juvenile fish #52FishyFridays

Happy #EarthDay from @garlab.bsky.social and our favorite fishes 🌎🐟

Hope we can all take a moment to appreciate the diversity of life around us (even toothy, long-snouted creatures!)

Fish can live in all sorts of weird places. And for #FishOfTheWeek we're gonna talk about just one of those places. And that place is: active volcanoes. And no, this is not a B-rated horror movie. Though it was an amazing discovery

Picture of a scalloped hammerhead in the super-heated volcanic waters of Kavachi Volcano. Only the front half of the shark is visible, but the classic 'hammerhead' is clearly noticeable even though the picture quality isn't amazing

You can catch them anywhere on Kelly Drive or further into the city on the Schuylkill river trail, and the waterworks

It’s officially spring time in PA which means it’s time to get back on the Flathead grind and I could not have dreamed of a better way to start the year than with my second largest flathead ever!!! It weighed 31.5lbs!
I am kneeling down and holding out the large flathead catfish A similar picture to the last one kneeling down holding the Flathead but from slightly further away Holding the Flathead at a different angle so the whole top of the fish is visible Head on view of the Flathead on a fish mat

Loricaria apeltogaster, a very cool catfish and an amazingly preserved specimen at the Academy of Natural Sciences Philadelphia from the Rio Uruguay in southern Brazil.

Every family is different.
Several gar (fish) skulls are lined up on a lab table, with some large, small, longer snouts and shorter snouts. All quite toothy though.

Homer Simpson into the bushes, Alligator Gar edition:
A juvenile Alligator Gar (fish) is seen resting among plants in an aquarium. Its head is partially seen through the plants, similar to the Homer Simpson into the bushes meme.
The post author has “a gar version” for just about any meme.

Time for #breakfast?

The barramundi is a large, silver fish that changes sex as it grows. Once the fish reaches about 20 inches in length, it transitions from male to female.

I finally finished my Spotted Gar illustration for today's #SundayFishSketch 🐡
An illustration of a Spotted Gar. The fish is long and thin, with a long, thin nose. The back is a darker olive-brown, and fades to pale cream towards the belly. The fins have a slight orange-red hue to them, and the body of the fish is covered in dark, irregular spots.

Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a scientist staring at their NSF/NIH grant application wondering why they bother. This post is for you. Science and society both need you. Hang in there and know there is a whole community supporting you.
