A very furry moth in the genus Trosia. It flew through the rain and got some water in its eye so it looks like it’s crying 🌱

Please remember: When we remind people that “there is NO evidence linking vaccines to autism” without adding “and fear of autism hurts autistics,” then we’re actually contributing to negative stereotypes about autism & autistic people. At TPGA:

If you’re inspired by last week’s deep sea Ocean Hoptimism talk w/ Liz Taylor and wondering how to help protect the deep ocean from seafloor mining, here’s one action that matters: add your name to oppose this industry in U.S. territories. 🌊
Small actions can protect vast places.

Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

I held on to a laptop for 11 years and only just replaced it this year with a used one for under $400.

There's been no appreciable gain in having faster phones, and Windows 11 isn't much more demanding than Windows 10.

Prices go up, but there's no commensurate gain.

Additionally, so many amazing sites need a lot more love from the scientific community. I hope that many more amazing sites that are more obscure or newer get some more love and research in the coming decades. Paleo is one of those fields where there's always another interesting site that needs work
Something I learned from working with @joschuaknuppe.bsky.social and @seismic-shrimp.bsky.social with researching formations and paleontological localities for the Formation Pieces is just how many amazing sites there are. We have so far drawn over 70 murals and have a lot more we could draw 1/2

It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?
