Judged by a panel of teachers, librarians, and other authors, it was chosen from a top field of peers from my home state and I was given a chance to thank all of them, as well as Utah Humanities for putting on the statewide awards.

It seems like such a hostile work environment, I could not imagine going to work every day with people I hated, doing physical labor, and just... yelling at everyone every day.

That seems.... not ideal.

That this house is getting built at all seems to be a miracle.

It is decidedly NOT being built with love. They all seem to hate each other.

I can handle all the banging and hammering and sawing. But them screaming at each other is rough.

They've been building a new house next door for the past few months.

I work from home and it's been loud but manageable for the most part.

The worst part is that the builders seem to hate each other and disagree about everything. They are constantly fighting and shouting at each other.

wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
