In a Flemish folktale, there used to be a nobleman who had sold his soul to the devil. One dreadful night, the castle sank into the ground, as did the man who was sitting in his carriage. He still haunts the area, and it's said the bells of the castle can be heard on Christmas Eve.

In 'The Mudcoil Indian' by Phil Robinson (Pall Mall 1895), explorers in the mountains of a remote part of the US (not clear where) find odd, beehive-shaped structures they think must be primitive huts. But in fact they are mudcoils created by giant subterranean worms!

If you’re going to go down the fridge magnet route in the museum shop, I reckon a laser-etched copy of the Claudia Severa - Sulpicia Lepidina birthday invitation Vindolanda tablet is pretty hardcore, to be fair.
