I see what you’re doing. You’re trying to get me to buy a book with a handsome cover and the sort of stories I like, but let me assure you: it might work.

Saving America from Trump and preserving our democracy explicitly requires that people who voted for Trump change their mind. Which in turn requires that those who didn’t vote for Trump show grace and empathy to those whose change of heart came from being hurt by the guy they voted for…

I think it was the 80s textual RPG “The Tebbitt” that used the phrase “nonplussed at his plus-fours”; it baffled me for years!
screenlight.bsky.social
The last time I used “nonplussed” was in the phrase “understandably nonplussed” in a Queens College essay on Tess of the d’Urbervilles [sp?] a million years ago. My clearly astonished fiction teacher gave it a big Yes in a circle. I guess that reaction is another bit of nonplussedness.

Oh, huh, I’m wrong about the movie but that’s an interesting coincidence with the correct answer.

I should read or see Wuthering Heights someday just so I can my only experience of it isn’t the semaphore version Monty Python did and a Kate Bush song.

And isn’t it ironic?
