#introduction time! Hello! I'm Graham, and I think too hard about things! 😂

I'm making an indie game called Brick & Bramble (ipsquiggle.itch.io/brick-and-br...), and before that I was a lead/designer/developer on Oxygen Not Included and Don't Starve. 🌱

I love to share my process always, so AMA! 📝

I've discovered I have a strong preference for the word "Dynamical" over "Dynamic" in design. My intuition says that Dynamic has connotations closer to "exciting" and "varied", where Dynamical has connotations closer to "full of dynamics" which is my intended meaning.

Okay, I've gotten emails from a number of large companies in the past month (Github, notably!) that don't have unsubscribe links anymore. Did a law change? Are tech companies experimenting with noncompliance? Has it just been a coincidence??

Huh: Today I Learned that the inflection point of a normal curve is always at 1 standard deviation. I'd be interested to know WHY that is, what property is driving what here?? 🤔

I think one of my big failings as a game designer is that I'm REALLY good at having fun. I often play the jankest shit (that I or someone else made) and rapidly start having fun with it, and it makes it hard for me to push it further.

And I don't mean "I can see the fun", I'm legitimately funnin'.

I know it's a small thing but I can't help feeling sad for Nintendo that their new console is the "2". Every other system they've ever made has had an explicit thematic reason to exist. This time they capitulated to technology and just made "more".

Time for my monthly uninstall of Copilot from all my computers 💖

Ugh, I've been trying to convey to people just how horrified I am by our current Canadian leadership, this does a great job of summing everything up. UGGGHHHH.

For any app/website/whatever that offers light and dark themes.. why would the default ever _not_ be "match OS". Like, I've already clearly indicated my preference at a highlevel, and this is a pretty ergonomic choice (not just "style").. so seriously, please respect that choice??

Oh fuck this bill is so abysmal! Please please PLEASE write your MPs and tell them to vote against this garbage power grab! We do not need "executive vigor", we need representation and rule of law. UGGGHHH 😬😬😬

So many reminders lately that the "efficiency of capitalism" is really just about externalizing costs and then pretending they don't exist.

This jet trail was leaving a shadow on a nearby cloud, I've never seem this before! The whole sky became 3D for a moment as I watched it from the train.

I love Assam tea.

I just drank a mouthful at perfect tempersture and out loud went, "Aaahhh yum-yum–yum-yum-yum," involuntarily.

I care about voting reform so much!! I'm so hopeful that this time BC can make it stick (and as I understand it, Citizen's Assembly is a great path forward)!

I also want this to happen as a signal to the federal government...

Big news in British Columbia! The all party Democratic and Electoral Reform Committee has recommended a Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform after months of hearings. 1/10

PSA, this incredible slice of my childhood is available on Prime, in Canada at least.

(Of course, I own it from it's original DVD release still... 😇)
The Odyssey was a show I was OBSESSED with. I tried to write a thing about it years ago. It was a show about a kid who goes into a coma and has to fight his way out of a world in his head with no adults. Ryan Reynolds played the head cop. incredibly weird vibes

I spent almost 2 hours today hunting down a bug caused by two numbers: 63.999998 and 64.000002. The problem is, when I round them down, they're an entire unit apart. Ugh. Programming is for suckers 🤣

Huh, longstanding bug in VSCode is that the cursor position behaves poorly if there are tabs in the line (it moves to the same character count, not same screen position).

Apparently screen-line motions in the Vim extension work correctly though, so yay, remaping j/k to gj/gk! 💪🤓 #vim #vscode
