Did you know the “weekend” and working only 8 hours per day used to be considered a radical, liberal idea?

139 years ago today, in Bay View, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 7 workers (including a 13 yo) lost their lives to advance this revolutionary idea.

NYT — 101 years ago today

Since then, approximately 4 million Americans have died from car crashes and today the US is an outlier in the worldwide trend toward safer streets.

I agree—and for some this is going to look like someone who got arrested barricading a door at an ICE facility and for others it’s gonna be that retired teacher who voted for Pete Buttigieg in 2020 because he reminded her of her grandson.

"Climate shock." New study shows that rising property insurance premiums caused by growing weather extremes are cascading into the real estate market. Homes in the ZIP codes most exposed to hurricanes and wildfires would sell for an average of $43,900 less than they would otherwise.

175 years later, longer commute
Wauwatosa, WI — 175 years ago today

Solomon Juneau and other Milwaukee leaders arrive after the first train trip ever taken in Wisconsin. It took 12 minutes, which is faster than it takes today to drive between the two cities. There is currently no commuter rail option.
