Please stop calling the circulating sub-clade K strain of H3N2 a "super flu". It is a strain that drifted through a normal evolutionary process from the strains included in this year's vaccine. It means we are seeing more cases of flu and the vaccine may not work as well in preventing infections.

Quick question: do you know of any individuals with a snail mail newsletter? Substack is fun and all, but I’m embracing offline connections this year. I’m thinking about starting my own too.

#Medlibs who work with APC funds and/or #scholcomm, curious if you’ve ever had a situation where an author was asked twice to cover an APC. Once for the article and then again to respond to article commentary (ie. Letter to the Editor)?

Took time during this break to toss Linktree and move my little blog from WP to Pagecord.

So far, I've really enjoyed rekindling the joy of personal blogging. I hope to do more writing and digital gardening on this corner of the internet. My first blog post: www.aidy.blog/the-blog-shu...

What do you call an archivist who catalogues and stores thousand+ year old ice cores?

Antarchivist 🧊 😆

Pretty cool right…sorry, couldn’t help it.
Two miles of ice core on the shelf at our national ice core facility in Lakewood, Colorado. The WAIS Divide core from West Antarctica is a 3400m long (deepest US core, 2nd deepest ice core ever) 68,000 year old record of high resolution climate.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.
