There are numerous examples of what you describe. Clearly that needs to be addressed as well. At one time it was possible for a couple to buy a house without both being at work. Granted it was a long time ago. But it did happen.

Labour seem to be saying all the same things as the Tories used to say, about getting the long term unemployed on sickness benefits back to work.

Why doesn’t someone ask if the way we live is the cause of so much mental illness? Or is the root cause not something we are interested in?

I’m glad it caused quite a quake. When a quake occurs the best advice is big steps in the right direction. Baby steps aren’t appropriate. We are in a mess and we need decisive action.

If Labour really wanted to boost growth they’d rejoin the EU. The only growth this will cause will be in all the usual antisocial problems associated with alcohol. During WW2 licensing hours were reduced to increase the productivity of munitions workers.
