A Eurasian magpie: A black bird with white wing markings near its body, and its longest wing feathers are white inside, as if outlined. This bird is in flight, swooping from right to left as it leaves a steel structure which is barely in frame.

A great cormorant, a large water bird with dark coloring with a bit of blue and (gold or green) iridescence, and white and yellow in its beak, is flying over the water of a river in Berlin. It moves left to right with purpose, its wingtips inches above the water. In the background and out of focus, there is a mute swan resting on the water. Its white body, long neck, and black facial markings are unmistakable.

A Eurasian coot, a darkly colored bird that, from this angle, appears gray in its body, black in its head and neck, with a white beak that appears to extend into a bony plate on its forehead. This one is on the surface of a river, swimming toward the camera, but with its head turned to keep an eye on the photographer.

A common nightingale, a small, brown bird, with a lighter, speckled belly and throat, perched on the thorny branch of a green bush. The bird is behind the thorny branch, but has just spotted the photographer, and is an instant from flying away.
