My wife was sexually harassed by Miles Hewstone as a phd student. He was still asked to review her (and other women he harassed) for jobs and promotions. This is so fucked up.

Thankfully, she and many other women testified against him and something was finally done. This is her take on his case:

I decided to study sociology when 15M in Spain was booming. In the middle of a terrible recession we felt that institutions didn't work, that chaos was the rule, and that the worst outcomes were the most likely ones.

Vegan pro tip for eating at conferences:

Most available vegan options in non-vegan places are just a bunch of processed and vegetables.

An easy way to make food healthier and more nutritious is to add nuts.

Nuts contain protein, healthy fats, and don't need refrigeration. Easy!

On my way to Venice on a @trenitalia.bsky.social train.

Once again, I wonder "why does the voice used in the pre-recorded announcements in English has a French accent?"

Did Trenitalia intentionally try to represent the real spirit of EU travelling without borders?

New paper with @mhamjediers.bsky.social

German judges have discretion to apply rehabilitative juvenile criminal law (Jugendstrafrecht) or punitive adult criminal law to 18–20-year-old offenders. We show that immigrant youths are ~10 percentage points less likely to be sentenced under juvenile law

Once again, let's look at who leaves (and not just who enters) when thinking about labour market segregation 👇

Nearly 40% of professors come from families without university-educated parents.
But across cohorts, professors from low-SES families have become less common in more recent generations.

This is my own thread for weirdly absurd observed use of AI

(1) Last week at the airport, someone asked ChatGPT which conveyor belt their suitcase would come from. Told the father Chat GPT said # 8.

The baggage-claim screen, right behind their head, clearly said #1, right in front of us.
