Some fantastic Adelaide connections in this list.

I started my holidays by making a list of all 98 books I read this year. Then decided to note why I read them in the first place (reviews, research?) and my verdict. And … this is a lot. But if you’re curious to see thoughts on any particular book, scroll to see!

My 2025 reading year
I read 98 books this year. What made me pick them up? I have some thoughts.

This is how I feel too. Religions are too constricting. The unknown has no bounds.
Love this so much 💗
The thing I don’t get, is why you would curtail the great mystery of a universal spirituality by placing a divine being at, as, its source. Isn’t there greater beauty I n unknowability? ‘Faith’ seems a poor substitute for a shared but unimaginable infinity. A Christmas thought. I’ll see myself out.

So much this!!!!! Adults don't want to see this either.
Stop the problem at the root, not the symptom.
Why is it so hard for those in charge to do the right thing?
*rhetorical
I was thinking about this in the context of the under-16 social media ban in australia and how so much of the discourse is "there are awful people putting awful stuff on the platform, we shouldn't let kids see it" as opposed to "let's try to stop them doing that".
I know it's a non-trivial problem.
A significant percentage of my friends' parents have completely--and I mean completely-- lost the plot, fed hate-filled slop and overt disinfo by algorithms meant to keep them angry and frightened, and somehow none of that is against the law.

Movie you've watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Star Wars/Trek, LOTR, Marvel, Disney animated or Pixar.

Honestly this is too easy, I'm a fan of the rewatch.
Love this movie.

Every damn word of this!

"Australian society runs on women as shock absorbers, and we’re about to test them to destruction. The number of Australians over 85 will quadruple within five years, and we’ve designed a system where that demographic tsunami crashes directly into midlife women"

Omg I just learned this kinda recently.
Cold isn't actually cold. it's the absence of heat. Absolutely fascinating.
❄️
Examples implied by the Laws of Thermodynamics

1. Hot and Cold are not true opposites. Just more heat energy vs less heat energy.

2. Refrigerators don’t make ‘cold’, they remove heat.

Cripes.
More terrible news.
I've not heard one single good thing about the new SAH changes so far. Plenty of complaints tho.
In estimates today the Department confessed to me that older people are having their My Aged Care data stolen by providers for use in sales calls.

This is aged care under Labor: jacking up out-of-pocket costs then letting telemarketers loose to gouge vulnerable people even more.

🤦‍♀️
I have zero expectations that this'll be a good thing.
EXCLUSIVE: Funding and support plans for national disability insurance scheme participants will be generated by a computer program and staff will have no discretion to amend them, under a major overhaul of the NDIS to be rolled out next year, @australia.theguardian.com can reveal.

It's somebody's birthday today.
He's had some creamy treats & leftover chicken & wants to say thanks, mum (obviously he's had enough dinner 😂), so is sitting right next to me as I work on the day's admin & waiting patiently for me to notice him.
You're welcome buddy.

AHPRA needs to do better. There shouldn't be mistakes when you're paying thousands in registration fees per year.

I don't understand Americans' obsession with marshmallows. One of the worst foods out.
And why are u adding them to savoury meals?
I don't actually need an answer just fyi 🤣 just noticing all the pics that people are sharing for some reason today lol.

Daughter's baseball game this evening. They won 9-7. Yah! 🤩
My son ended up reffing the game. I think it was his first time umpiring in quite a while.
He did really well. You could hear all the calls and knew every time there was a strike.
*whispers* unlike the umpire in last week's game. 🦗

I watched The Woman in Cabin 10 yesterday.
Was a tiny bit predictable but entirely enjoyable. Loved the visual aesthetics of the film.
