well ryan has basically (& much more succinctly!) made the argument about tiktok here that i do in my dissertation. we've been so desperate to see it as social media with social implications when it has always been focused on ecommerce which only filters down into the social
I know this is hard to hear, but TikTok does not need the US. American users and lawmakers still think TikTok is a social app that makes money from advertising. It's not. It's a global e-commerce platform and our content has always been meaningless filler.
