Hi #PortfolioDay

I'm James. I love making fun games. I love writing new stories. I love working with cool people.

I’m currently a narrative director at Ubisoft.

I’m also a freelance comics writer, looking for new opportunities in both franchise and creator-owned spaces.

I read IRON MAN EPIC COLLECTION: WAR MACHINE. Interesting to see that they repeated the story bits of replacing Stark with Rhodes 10 years later. For me burning through Epics it felt quick, like "again?" but I wonder if it felt new or refreshed if you were reading it monthly in real time.

I read IRON MAN EPIC COLLECTION: DOOM. I hope the MCU adapts this story where Iron Man & Dr. Doom travel to the future and meet a teenage King Arthur. RDJ would crush it. The highlight of this book is @johnromita.bsky.social showing up for 1 issue and blowing everyone away with incredible art.
Some incredible art by John Romita Jr. in Iron Man 256, is there anything this guy can't draw?

I read IRON MAN EPIC COLLECTION: RETURN OF THE GHOST. The most interesting thing in this book is "Crash": the 1st computer-generated graphic novel from 1988. It's not great, and it seems like an earlier version of "computers can do art better than artists can" that we're dealing with today
My copy of Iron Man Epic Collection v14: Return of the Ghost

Writers: Mike Saenz, David Michelinie, Bob Layton, Ken Steacy & Roger McKenzie
Pencils: Mike Saenz, Butch Guice, Denys Cowan, Alan Kupperberg, Bob Layton, Ken Steacy, Harry Candelario, Bob Downs, Dave Simons, Marc Siry, Gavin Curtis & James Brock
Inks: Mike Saenz, Bob Layton, Barry Windsor-Smith, ken Steacy, Don Hudson & Chris Ivy
Colours: Mike Saenz, Bob Sharen, Paul Becton, ken Steacy, Marc Siry & Mike Rockwitz
Letters: Mike Saenz, Janice Chiang, Ken Steacy & Andrew Pratt cover art for Iron Man: Crash by Mike Saenz Tried way too hard to be a grim 80s cyberpunk thing, some stuff is detailed but smudgy and some stuff looks like placeholder assets in a video game The behind the scenes of how Crash was made was interesting

LITTLE NIGHTMARES: DESCENT RO NOWHERE #1 releases today.

This is a book we have been working on for years. I am very proud of it and hope it offers a tiny bit more insight into the mysteries of The Counties.

I'm a sucker for a FB Marketplace bargain! Few years back I got a pile of big #IronMan TPBs for $5/each & only now getting to them. First up is IRON MAN EPIC COLLECTION: THE ENEMY WITHIN. This one has some killer done-in-ones by Denny O'Neil and then an arc where Tony relapses and Rhodey takes over.

God I'm so fucking bad at updating this shit. But I read Walking Dead vols 2 through 10 by Robert Kirkman & Charlie Adlard. I'll have to track down the rest of the series one day and finish it off. Have any of you read the whole thing from start to finish? Worth it? #WalkingDead #ImageComics

On this day in 2021, I finished Judgment on PS4. I love all the RGG Studios games and this was a really fun way to explore Kamurocho from outside the usual Yakuza POV, while still being 100% a Yakuza game in terms of melodrama and silliness. #RGGStudios #Yakuza #JudgeEyes #Judgment

"That's the point – the smudge, the rough line, the hesitation - that's what makes my work come alive." - Jim Lee talking about why DC will never use AI storytelling. "AI doesn't dream, feel or make art, it aggregates it."

Miyazaki survived the bombing of Utsunomiya as a child. His family escaped in a car, but left a neighbor and her daughter behind to save themselves. Miyazaki regrets this, and said this has stayed with him and shaped his film making. He hopes his audience will learn the courage he lacked in 1945.
