Fantastic day helping researchers in Grenoble give amazing presentations.
I had just enough to take one photo with what may or may not be an Alp.
Now back to Paris 🎉

I love Grenoble because they built a monument o their favourite atomic orbital, the objectively best 3dz2.
(Probably).

In the 2010s, the Icelandic tv station Channel 2 accidentally added subtitles from a gritty crime drama to an episode of Teletubbies.

I have translated some of the highlights

How do you talk about difficult/distressing/upsetting topics with the pubic?

C’est un selfie dans le train, mais en français.

Don’t let the hoodie fool you. I don’t even know how to play rugby, I just thought it was cute.

Lounge life.
Sleeper and Eurostar in the same day. My train flavoured mutuals will be jealous.

Over all journey: Aberdeen to Grenoble, 1,000 miles.

Had to leave my little blue companion in London while I’m in France because you can’t take mom-native species in (even though it died nearly 10 years ago)

Someone on the tube reading one of my least favourite books- the critically acclaimed Laidlaw by William McIlvanney. Granted I was only a teen and wonder if I’d find it as grim, dull and unlikeable as I do now.

The least glamorous part of the sleeper train (which isn’t at all glamorous) is the arrival. Train arrived at 7:53 and departed at 8:00. So it feels like an emergency evacuation, racing so they don’t take you half dressed back to Scotland.
January 21, 2026 at 8:06 AM
A late one but it’s the first sleeper train of the year.
(My original one was cancelled but they got me a room on the one from Inverness. Also got an upgrade, a refund and some fudge 🎉)

Stopping in London, Paris and Grenoble to give talks. Toot toot 🚂

What kind of Reform-voting nonsense is this.
Am I angry? No
Am I sad? No
Pity is what I feel. Your entire wit-void, grievance-led, empty life is written out on your chest.

Star Trek fans: I love him and would die for him

Also Star Trek fans: eww why would fat people even exist in the future.

Their misogyny is shining as bright as ever. I feel so sad that this wonderful cast is receiving so many unjustified and unpleasant comments.

So better Trek fans. Do better.
January 16, 2026 at 7:46 PM
I’ve seen the first ep of Star Trek Academy now.
Better than I’d expected. My main criticism is that it couldn’t decide if it’s a cute teen show or an adult drama and flicked between the two.
But the actors were great and Holly Hunter is wonderful. Also 🥰🥰🥰 to have Bob Picardo back on screen.

Just need to look at recent reality tv voting to see why I have such low faith in jury trials. Unconscious (and conscious) bias is insidious. I want a trained and accountable system.

Today’s Scottish word (which I just discovered is Scottish) is a “minding”. It’s a small present as in “nothing special, just a wee minding”. Coming from the Scottish use of the word “mind” to mean “remember”.
