How can ordinary people come together to protect immigrants from unjust deportation?

Throughout the 1980s & early 90s, the Sanctuary Movement illustrated one way to do this.

In a newly published paper, Karla Segovia, Molly Rovinski & I analyze this movement. link.springer.com/article/10.1...

In the 1980s and early 1990s, civil wars contributed to significant waves of migration from Central American countries such as El Salvador and Guatemala. The United States federal government, specific...

Liberal Currents is essential if you want to revive your own liberalism into a vibrant, living set of beliefs and positive vision for the world.

Just heard that after 27 years on Louisiana’s death row, Chris “Jimmie” Duncan is finally getting out. Not exactly sure when, but I’m told he’ll be home for Thanksgiving.

This is wonderful news.

Here’s my 2009 piece on the forensic fraud that got him convicted:
Forensics Fraud?
Experts say this video shows a doctor manufacturing evidence. So why is a man still on death row?

The Trump administration has a new mass deportation playbook.

We’ve seen it in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Charlotte. And it’s coming to more cities.

U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The military service, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, has drafted a new policy that classifies such items “potentially divisive.”

Those of us who study this stuff have been saying it over and over…taking on the policies of the far right further enables them. I was in a discussion yesterday in Bristol and have to agree that Labor is opening the door for Farage.

This (unfortunately pricey) volume comes out in a few weeks and despite being years in the making is unexpectedly timely, since the crosscurrents, factions, and continuing rise of the postliberal right are very much part of each day's news.

It would be interesting to follow their evolution if TFP types could be expected to react to the fact that self-proclaimed socialists don't govern like Lenin, but these people are boring. At best.
The Free Press' front page is four articles of MANDAMI PANIC, a Dick Cheney nostalgia essay, and one of the richest people in the world writing about why he gave $100 million to Bari Weiss' unaccredited anti-woke college.

Yeah. My policy views are well to the right (in some sense) of a lot of the self-described centrist Democrats, but on the "oppose fascism vs appease fascism" cleavage, I am not at all on their side.
i call this view 'reactionary centrism' - the problem with it is that modern fascism *cannot* be appeased; they don't want a few compromises in women's sports, they want a total social transformation and the end of liberal democracy

you give them a bone, then another, then they want your arm

While I'm happy that Canada has not cratered on immigration in the same way the U.S. has, demolishing international student admissions hands two wins to the far right: concession that immigration is a problem and weakening higher education.

I hope I am just worrying too much about this.
