What’s really going on with the ‘war on drugs’ that has led to the US killing dozens of alleged drug dealers off the coast of Venezuela Colombia & most recently Mexico?
How is "a non-international armed conflict" legally defined?

4 more strikes today, killing 14 more people, with one survivor left to the Mexicans to deal with - this ongoing campaign of extra-judicial killing flagrantly violates international law and reflects a notorious disregard for the rule of law.

My thread on the #ICJ's AO ruling. #Israel has been hammered, its obligations under treaty law & CIL made clear. Honestly, nothing surprising, just the ICJ confirming #intlaw obligations. But plenty of noting of Israel's violations of intLaw. Sebutinde out in the cold as was expected.
Time for another #ICJ ruling! Advisory Opinion on Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, Other Int Organizations & Third States in & in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory dropping now.

#Israel prohibited from taking actions contrary to obligations under UN Charter & CPIUN in and regards to OPT. Must allow free movement of UN personnel so they can carry out their mandated activities.

ICERD, ICCPR, ICESCR, CEDAW, CAT, CROC, CRPD all relevant!! #ICJ says #humanRights obligations outside its own territory, esp in OT applies with respect to all these treaties. CIL also applies. Wide range of human rights apply & are relevant to OPT pop'n. All alongside #IHL occupation obligations.

#Israel has positive obligation to respect & fulfil #humanRights of OT pop'n even in times of armed conflict. Doing so has been assisted by UN incl #UNRWA, so diminishment of UN ability means Israel's obligations increase.

All occupied persons must be respected & humanely treated. Rights incl right to life, right to freedom from torture (etc), right to liberty & security, right to freedom of movement, protection of family life, adequate std of living, enjoyment of health, education, freedom from discrimination

#Israel obligated not to use starvation as method of warfare. As OP, Israel has #IHL obligations to respect & fulfil #HumanRights of pop'n.

Starvation is prohibited as method of warfare. #Israel blocked humanitarian aid, preventing relief from entering. Israel's consent to ops of GHF since May 2025 & to other ltd humanitarian aid has not signfiicantly alleviated the situation. Local pop'n inadquately supplied.

#Israel must provide supplies essential for survival of pop'n of OT. Art 55-56 API obligations extend beyond #Gaza to other parts of OPT, Not only a positive obligation to provide supplies to pop'n to the fullest extent, & negative obligation not to impede provision of supplies or health services.

Those minutes until you find your child after the kindergarten is shelled. If you need to explain what hell is, this is it.

The world's biggest child kidnapper, Putin, hit a kindergarten in Kharkiv. There are injured children. There is a fire in the kindergarten.

Coming tomorrow: We are getting our heads around the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. But there’s still a lot of detail to be ironed out.

Andriy Kostin, now ambassador in The Hague explains why Kyiv needed this Special Tribunal agreed.
I’d guess Nicaragua and its amazing agent top the list.

Out tomorrow: Why do states bring cases to the ICJ - even when there’s no jurisdiction? @drnajimagi.bsky.social helps run though the current caseload. Plus with the genocide cases against Myanmar and Israel, are states trying to be useful or just delaying when they make additional interventions?
