I am writing this because it has swiftly become crystal clear to me that many people have no idea what is happening or how this works. Here is a thread for non-academics to put into context what just happened to Dr. Mark Bray, a fellow historian.

JUST OUT: "Boundaries and Cleavages: Elements of a Cultural Sociology of Political Divides."

OA: direct.mit.edu/ecps/article...

It develops what the cultural sociology of group formation can contribute to research on political cleavages.

(And why "Somewheres vs Anywheres" really doesn't cut it.)

@dpzollinger.bsky.social and I are thrilled "Cleavage Politics in Western Democracies" is out as an SI at @wepsocial.bsky.social!

Its papers explore the foundations of the cleavage pitting new left against radical right parties, and how it compares to the classic cleavages of Lipset & Rokkan:

Reminder that we still don’t know what happened to the 1,000 immigrants who went missing from Alligator Alcatraz.

Their families and attorneys can’t locate them.

They’ve been disappeared.

People are still being sent to that horrible place without any due process.

You are totally right. And in Germany it is getting worse, too. And the men that took part in the interviews were almost all left of the US Democratic Party...if you want to place them politically in the US.
