As I reluctantly destroyed this web with a long stick, I said, "Sorry, yes, I know, I know, but look, this is too much - you're just taking the piss." (2/2)

When I came out of the house today, quite a big spider had decided to block the front path by spreading a web across it and sitting smack in the middle like some terrible arachnoid Gandalf. (1/2)

This feels like the 2025 version of proclaiming you don't have a TV.

I decided to have toast for breakfast.

This is only controversial when, like me, you're in your fourth week of radiotherapy and your mouth is inflamed and ulcerated.

I am slowly munching through the toast. It doesn't taste 100% like toast, but it is toast nonetheless.

I have requested that my cancer radiotherapy team play @judaspriestof.bsky.social's Breaking The Law while I'm having my 19th zap tomorrow. Watch this space ⚡️🤘

"What we're creating here is a wound."

Lovely stuff.

Still, the more it hurts me, the more it hurts cancer.

If you'd like to help me get through this nonsense, the GoFundMe link is in my bio. Of course it is. 👊

I can barely speak now - or at least not without feeling a fair deal of pain.

I'm also very much in the realm of eating soft food only. (Hello ice cream and custard - it's not all bad.)

Basically I'm voluntarily turning up each day to be punched in the head.

As my consultant told me... (2/3)

Today was my 13th day of cancer radiotherapy - and it was unlucky in some ways.

The machine was playing up and my session almost had to be postponed.

My cab driver quacked about how aggrieved he was with how the hospital had booked him, until he finally got the message from my silence. (1/3)

Admittedly, it could also lead to an evil AI mirror overlord of myself running rampant 🤔

When this whole cancer nonsense began, I 'banked' my voice by recording various voice samples.

Now that radiotherapy has started to bring the joy of mouth ulcers, it's become harder to speak. So I'm gonna turn those samples into an AI model of my speech. Could be very handy.

If you've had radiotherapy, would love to hear if your experience has differed from any of the above.

💥 I got into debt to help pay for this super-precise radiotherapy, to have the best chance of sticking around for my 6-year-old twins

👀 Want to help me claw my way back out? Link in bio. ❤️👊

5) A big button on the nearby wall is marked LAST MAN OUT. Before treatment, the last staffer to leave the room hits this button, so the machine knows there's only one human left in the room and it's safe to commence the zapping.

4) The treatment itself lasts 2-3 minutes. It doesn't hurt and the vast majority of people feel no side effects in week 1. Turns out I am one of those people. 🥳

2) During treatment, your head and shoulders are tightly clamped to a rack, courtesy of a custom moulded thermoplastic mask (which you can see in the pic) so as to stop you moving...

3) ... which is helpful, because otherwise the intense beam of radiation might hit and cook healthy tissue.

5 things I learned during my first week of cancer radiotherapy:

1) Radiotherapy is delivered by an enormous machine that, as some onlookers noted earlier in the week, looks a bit like the robot Drathro from #DoctorWho.

2 days to go: on Monday me + my boys move into the London place, just as daily cancer radiotherapy begins 👀⚡️

1st month’s rent is now covered ❤️ Thank you!

Target = £22K (we’re at £20,902). Hitting it means month 2 is secure + I can breathe a bit easier.

Link in bio if you can help 🙏

One good thing about my imminent London radiotherapy is that I WILL be in the same city as my kids every day.

Want to help me beat cancer? My inevitable GoFundMe link is in my bio. Thank you. 👊❤️

When you're not always in the same city as your children, a simple moment of online connection like this means EVERYTHING.

I didn't expect Roblox to be quite this wonderful.

Certainly didnt expect it to make me cry happy tears.

Thank you Fi. Yes, i'm hoping for the best while very much preparing for the worst! Feels like a good policy in general, right? :)

Three days now until my radiotherapy begins.

Kinda looking forward to getting started, which is odd considering I'll be zapped in the head with radiation every weekday for 6 weeks.

Also quite looking forward to the experience of living in London again for the 2/3 months of treatment/ recovery.
