Wonderful piece from @miasato.bsky.social. For a J history lover, I found the yellow journalism framework just brilliant. There is also perhaps no better word for certain parts of today's media landscape than "slopagandist." A worthy read!
Nick Shirley and others like him are reminiscent of yellow journalism of the 19th century, updated and turbocharged by social media algorithms.

Since AI has ruined my beloved em dash in the eyes of many, I am going full Tom Wolfe in my punctuation. We're talking random italic, so many exclamation points, ellipses, and a ton of onomatopoeia to close thoughts. 'Whoooomp!' 'Thphhhhhh!' Take that robots!

Stop AI-Shaming Our Precious, Kindly Em Dashes—Please
Human writers have always used the em dash. In fact, it’s the most human punctuation mark there is.

What if she loses? That’s not the kind of question you usually ask an athlete, especially one making her #Olympics debut. But there may be no member of #TeamCanada at The Games more capable of dealing with that question than Sarah Wilkes. #LdnOnt #MilanoCortina2026

I can make a strong argument that the long, painful, often self-inflicted death of newspapers began 30 years ago today with the final #CalvinAndHobbes strip.

This is about the hardest thing I have watched in some time. Such a perfect messenger for this story, a powerful penance for a man whose overly sappy reporting has “whitewashed” - his words - these tragedies for years. #AllTheEmptyRooms #Netflix

Happy #TheLastWaltz day to those who celebrate. Although our first without a living member of #TheBand, we've been blessed in recent years with a Robbie Robertson book and doc, a Scorsese doc, as well as an amazing soundtrack reissue. More alive than ever!

Still love a small-venue concert. Would totally support bands putting in place the same rules for the whole crowd that they often do for media: "You can shoot as much as you want for the first three songs, then put the cameras away."
In the TikTok era, people are filming rather than dancing at nightlife spaces. Now, a growing movement of venues in New York are banning or limiting phones on dance floors. “I’d rather live in the moment and feel the joy,” said one reveler in East Williamsburg.
