What's interesting as the Thanksgiving Holiday arrives? The first @bgc-argo.bsky.social profiling floats begin to emerge from under Antarctic sea ice each year. Float 5905383 is the first @soccomproject.bsky.social float for 2025/26. It has spent 7.9 years operating under ice.

This year's #Arctic sea ice freeze-up is clearly the latest on record for the Baffin Bay region (located between Greenland and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago). The extent of ice cover is a record low for the date there.

🌊 How do we collect sea ice to measure tor trace elements and isotopes? You need a big drill to collect the core and then a lot of patience to shave down the outsides with a ceramic blade…to get clean ice to melt and analyze. Dr. Tia Anderlini on the trigger here.

🌊 We never did find the mooring we were looking to recover here off the western edge of central 🇬🇱 Greenland. The bergs probably took it…but it was a beautiful spot to look. Summer 2024
