I wrote a(nother) comic! It's called the Downtrodden and is a fully independent venture with excellent art! You can find details on the (former) Kickstarter page (www.kickstarter.com/projects/pbc...) or purchase at my website (jcarterwrites.com).

Parts 2 AND 3 coming sooner than you might think!
The Downtrodden
A Southern, supernatural, urban story with a splash of color

It's a very apt comparison, wish I'd thought of it when I was praising The Power Fantasy. As a big fan of Rising Stars it's an incredible compliment (and an excuse to talk about Rising Stars, hence the summoning).

Rising Stars mentioned, I've been summoned

The countdown begins. The Bizarre Bazaar: Mirror Town hits shelves
7/8! ✨

Thank you to Little, Brown Ink and author Daniel Nayeri for trusting me to capture the first weird and wonderful tale in the series. This project is made possible by a magnificent team of magic makers. I hope you all enjoy!

Project Justice was my white whale for years - wasn't able to get it when I was a kid so had to circle back round as an adult and was 1000% worth it. We let Project Justice down, not the other way around.

I do respect the hell out of any comic book movie whose finale doesn't revolve around a punch contest. I love a punch contest as much as the next guy but sometimes it really can and should be resolved another way

Neutral IS interesting and I do want to try that. When we're both in neutral and someone whiffs and gets counterattacked - that's fun. Back in neutral and a trap gets sprung - that's also fun. Parrying a fireball and rushing in? Yep, fun!

Combos are the boring part, both to execute and experience.

Can vouch, this right here is a good book! Enjoyed the heck out of #1 so back it now to make sure this series can continue!

After Boom's previous injection of life into Power Rangers I trust their ability to pick a solid team and make this what it could be! VR Troopers seems a tough nut to crack but I'm down
BOOM! Studios announced the first VR Troopers series in nearly 30 years will arrive in June 2025 from writer Mairghread Scott and artist Sebastian Piriz. @boom-studios.com

I have too many cards and I must sleeve...
March 20, 2025 at 1:41 PM
I have become hopelessly addicted to card games recently. One Piece, Magic, Marvel Champions, etc. Discovered #UltramanTCG in Seattle and now want nothing more than to stack cards and grunt that classic Ultraman "He-ah!"

I have a problem, I admit, but I'm all the way in.

Wow, you have no idea how long I've been looking for something like this - harder to find them one expects! A year. There, now you know how long it's been. Thanks for putting this together!

@emeraldcitycon.bsky.social was phenomenal. Thanks for having us! Hope we get to do it again and also Seattle is a VERY cool city. Next time we'll have an even wider selection of excellent books to read! Headed to SC next! #conbutnotforgotten

I might laugh but I also connect and that's the most important thing. I've failed before and I'll fail again but I hope other people at least appreciate that I tried without tearing others down in the process. "Everyone sucks at this, I can do it better" is rarely a good foundation for creativity.

I LOVE terrible movies, unironically. Watching someone attempt to make something they want to be amazing and just fail is beautiful. They put their entire heart into it and tried their best and it just doesn't work but dammit they're trying - I love it. If the effort is earnest, I'm a supporter!

Good rule for surviving the internet! Criticism is easy - the huge majority of these negative feedback machines rarely MAKE anything and when they try it is often quite bad.

Creation is hard. I'd rather make (or experience) a spectacular failure of a project than cynically profit from negativity.
One of the basic rules I have (especially with a youtube critic) is to click through to their main page, and if 80%+ of what they're doing is negative, I know they're an arsehole not worth listening to, a pointless grifter or both.
Couldn't agree more. The reason MST3K works (in small doses) is you're actually watching the film along with them, so it's like riffing with friends and you're experiencing the thing being mocked.
General mockery of "bad" art though is just tiresome.

My brother also enjoys comics and has given some very honest reviews, which I appreciate! My wife reads them as well. Lemme make a bunch more and see how true that remains! Everyone else I'm honestly unsure but it doesn't change much for me - it's not everyone's medium and that's fine.
Comic creators: Do people close to you read your comics? Do you care?

Also, the art is absolutely bringing the heat! I quite enjoy the touch that people before and after transformation look like the same person despite their differing appearances. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean but I bet it's even harder to do. That being pulled off here is super impressive.

To close the faves of 2024 list let's talk about Lawful from @gregpak.net and Diego Galindo. I bought this because I trust Pak and that trust was well-placed - this is an unsung hero of the year. It's nuanced and the characters are fully understandable even when they're wrong, which for me is ideal.
December 31, 2024 at 2:15 PM
Next to talk about for fave of 2024 is Jorge Corona and @skottieyoung.bsky.social's Ain't No Grave. 5 issues of action-packed and character driven awesomeness. This team keeps knocking it out of the park and '24 was no exception. At this point if anyone on this team is on a book it's be a must read!

Nice House on the Sea likely needs no introduction. A direct sequel to the previous Nice House book, @jamesthefourth.bsky.social and @amartinezbueno.bsky.social continue to absolutely crush it. The intrigue is intriguing, the writing top tier, and the art is utterly fascinating. Top shelf stuff!
December 30, 2024 at 3:37 PM
Last but not least on the "talked about before, remains excellent" list is Vicarious from @thatryanparrott.bsky.social and Eleonora Carlini. After only 3 issues this story has already taken us for quite a ride and I love it. In an era of decompression I appreciate the pacing of this book. No brakes!
December 29, 2024 at 2:26 PM
Another book I've mentioned before, One for Sorrow from @mckelvie.bsky.social is amazing. Only 1 issue has been released as I write this and it's so good the whole series makes "fave of 2024" list. Stellar writing, amazing art, intrigue, old-timey goodness. The gif is me waiting for more (no rush!).
