The DOJ does what?

Glad the secretary of defense is taking the time to hold the line ... about awards ... on Twitter ... while Army Secretary Dan Driscoll is overseas discussing peace proposals surrounding a Russian invasion about to enter its fourth year. Great job, everyone

Does Sean Parnell even have a job anymore since the defense secretary is now, seemingly, just a Pentagon spokesperson?

The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

The irony of these people complaining about the invented dangers of immigrants and then welcoming brain pollution from overseas hustlers.
Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

Can't think of many books throughout history that sound less interesting than Olivia Nuzzi's upcoming memoir, "Please give me more attention"

This virus is horrendous in national security journalism, where too many journos enjoy perpetual self-aggrandizing while reporting about literal life and death
Becoming famous is the height of achievement in national political journalism today. That's why so many prominent journalists think she's so skilled and amazing.
this insistence that she is some preternatural journalistic talent is going to drive me insane

Love that instead of using congressional measures to fight the legalities surrounding certain military actions, these people are just like, "Hey, 19-year-old PFC, don't be a puss and say no."

Been an indisputable surge in white nationalism in recent years, but yesterday's Coast Guard news felt, in too many ways, like gotcha journalism. Responses coming immediately after publication, immediate update of language, all of it

If Trump’s fascism is so bad, why aren’t the students protesting? We asked three right-wing oligarchs who bullied their alma maters into enforcing total bans on freedom of assembly on campus.

If "getting politics out of our teaching of history" is similar at all to, say, the way the DOD in early 2025 discussed "getting politics out of the military," it just means "we want it flooded with the politics that make us feel good"
Counterpoint: Teaching history is inherently and always political.
In San Antonio, Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai, the county's elected top administrator, decried Patrick's “gross political interference.”

"We need to get politics out of our teaching of history. Period,” he said in a statement Friday.

People, myself included, have covered up FAR more innocuous tattoos simply because the art sucks and what was thought to be badass as a 20-year-old is, in fact, not.

It's wild to go that long without covering THAT up
The crazy thing is that Platner could have absolutely survived the tattoo thing had he gotten it removed/covered up whenever it is that he first learned what it meant, showing him growing and learning and yadda yadda, etc. But instead he just hoped it'd never come up? Come on, dude.
Graham Platner to @daveweigel.bsky.social:
"How do you expect to win back men when you go back through somebody’s Reddit history and just pull it all out and say: ‘Oh, my God, this person has no right to ever be in politics?’"

DSCC Chair Gillibrand: “It’s up to the voters of Maine to decide.”

You’d be shocked to learn that this blurb on the Harlem Hellfighters, which of course is filled with Hegseth adoration, leaves out any real discussion on racism, and suggests the most difficult obstacles the Hellfighters faced were shipping logistics on their way to France

The most curmudgeon-y veteran sentiment I've ever received.

Salty, hard-charging reader upset that soldiers who heroically stopped an active shooter were not in proper uniform to receive recognition for stopping an active shooter
