I am a ghostly whisper, lost in sky, a stray thought ever fading, stubbornly asking why, wingtips glinting in starlight as through the frozen darkness I fly.

I'm an engineer / scientist / inventor who now mostly focuses on writing & music. Also, I'm a dragon, sort of. And sometimes confused, sort of. From time to time, I shall be posting photos of trees, cats, raccoons, owls, and deer from my tiny refuge of Jeffendell. (Plus some music, possibly.)

Exactly. Crazy idiot cult.
The reason for the psychotic break in America is FoxNews convinced your neighbors, relatives, and coworkers that White People are the most discriminated-against race in America

Dark energy, the mysterious phenomenon that causes our universe to expand, appears to be weakening over time. A new formulation of string theory predicts a value that closely matches this observation.

In an unprecedented step, researchers crafted a detailed model compatible with the universe’s accelerated expansion.

Most gamma-ray bursts last seconds to minutes and are associated with the explosive death of a massive star. However, GRB 250702B in July 2025 lasted hours to days, causing astronomers to wonder what could produce an explosion that just wouldn’t stop. 🔭🧪🛰️ nustar.caltech.edu/news/nustar2...

A moon larger than a planet.
Next time you look at Jupiter's moon Ganymede just think it's the largest natural satellite in the Solar System. Even larger than the planet Mercury. Can be seen with small binoculars or a tiny telescope. 🔭 🧪

I did this for years, but I've never heard this new term, and I don't really like it. Not sure it's actually very descriptive. Flexible work hours should just be called what they are.

These things are great. Everybody should have one. It's a little late for preparing for the ice storms arriving tomorrow & Sunday, but they're still something to consider. You can almost always find one or the other of them on sale, very often for almost 50% off.
If you’re going off the grid or prepping for an emergency, Wirecutter's favorite portable power station can keep your electronic gear running for hours — or even days — at a time. It’s roughly the same size and weight as a toaster oven.

Here in the Southeast, we are not good with snow & ice. Even a little bit ends up looking like doomsday. People freak out & go crazy on the roads, electricity goes out everywhere, and it feels a bit like the end of the world.

Costco had no bottled water. Neither do the grocery stores. And all the lines to get gas at Costco ran waaaaay out into the street, so there wasn't even any room to pull up and wait for a pump.

Lots of things are out of stock.

I did get sports drinks, apples, and crackers. So I guess I'm all set.
