The additional strain on top of the social care problem is caused by #COVID. COVID is causing a continuous cycle of health problems and immune problems leaving many open to more infections. We urgently need #CleanAir & masks in healthcare. It’s unsurprising as we are still in an official Pandemic. 🧵
8 major hospitals have declared critical incidents in the last 24hrs alone.

Some of the 100s of patients stranded on trolleys, in corridors & in the back of ambulances will likely die there.

This isn’t normal, inevitable or attributable to viruses alone. (1/2)

Alas neither Labour UK nor Wes Streeting on here yet, but could we all agree that however MPs vote on AD next week, this is a huge opportunity for the government to announce - finally, after decades of successive governments failing dying people - proper NHS funding of palliative care?

81% of the public agree (54% strongly agree) that people at the end of life should have continuity of care with their Gp and a social care plan that meets their needs

And 80% agree (52% strongly agree) that the government should commit more support and guidance for home carers

These new surveys show that the public care more, and more strongly, about fixing palliative care, social care and home care than they do about assisted dying / assisted suicide. This is important.

Keen to start a discussion, why, when children’s palliative is commissioned by an “integrated” care board, is the social care element left out? Often this is packaged as LA short breaks, but to provide holistic support to families children’s palliative social care has to be integral to their support
