One of the (many) legal gaps that needs to be filled after this nightmare is over is to prohibit federal law enforcement agencies from using federal funds to create propaganda videos with anyone in custody. This is all about spectacle and content creation, remove the incentive and the means

Once again, the Trump administration has been caught lying to a federal court:

Yesterday, it filed a declaration from Major General Niave Knell stating that:
“the Federal Protective Service (FPS) requested federalized National Guard personnel to support protection of the Federal District Court.”
Case: 1:25-cv-12174 Document #: 62-3 Page 3 of 4 7. The current area of operations for all federalized National Guard deployed to Illinois is primarily within Cook County, Illinois. The area of operations denotes where members of the federalized National Guard are performing federal protection functions, namely, to protect federal property, personnel, and ensure federal personnel can perform federal functions. It is possible that the arca of opcrations could change as situations develop on the ground. 8. Federalized National Guardsmen will perform duties in accordance with the federal protection mission as authorized by the President in his October 4, 2025 Memorandum and the Secretary of War Memoranda, filed contemporancously. By DoW policy, the scope of the National Guard activities will be in response to requests for assistance from Federal Government agents and agencies only when they are related to protection of federal personnel performing official functions, as well as requests for protection duties such as protection of federal buildings. The federalized National Guard will not be engaged in law enforcement activities. ARNORTH will review the requests for compliance with the current mission authoritics, route the requests to the appropriate ARNORTH approval authority, and once approved, assign federalized National Guard personnel accordingly. 9. As of 1430 CDT on October 8, 2025, ARNORTH has received two requests for protection support. First, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requested federalized National Guard personnel to support protection of federal property and personnel at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, Illinois. Second, the Federal Protective Service (FPS) requested federalized National Guard personnel to support protection of the Federal District Court on Friday, October 10, 2025 due to two high profile cases involving DHS activities and personnel in the Chicago, Illinois metropolitan area.

I feel like a broken record, but I have to keep saying it over and over again: a farmer bailout won’t do much of anything because the market is gone. There will be no incentive to plant next year.

The bailout will help payoff farmer debt to the banks. That’s all.

This is really important. I was recently talking to folks in Chicago who said that much as they fear ICE detaining children without due process, they worry even more that child traffickers will don their same masks and do even worse.
