TONIGHT is the last chance to join in our beginners' stargazing challenges 100hours.online . It looks like there will be clear skies in the North East up from Leeds and into Aberdeenshire. Look up, it's a treasure hunt in the sky!
Screengrab of weather map showing clear skies from Leeds up the North East coast and another clear patch a bit just north east of Birmingham. Ad for the event with the logo, url, and tagline "Look up!". The image is of a normal friendly looking woman, maybe late twenties, holding a disposable coffee cup and looking up at a starry sky from a suburban environment. Thanks Mission Astro for letting us use this great photo!

I wouldn't have believed this was real but apparently it is. Holy moly

It's the last day of 100hours.online ! If you have clear skies, pop outside or peek out a window and see if you can complete any challenges to add to our stargazing map. Best region looks like the North East and up to Aberdeenshire but there are gaps in the clouds in other places too.
Screengrab of weather map, showing clear spots from north of York up the east coast as far as Aberdeen. Also a gap just north of Blackpool.

Also they survive largely off ticket income, so if you want more in rural areas that needs reliable government funding
jennyshipway.bsky.social
Mostly those are just areas with higher population; they're actually pretty well spread out given where the people are

Do you have clear skies? Look up! Tonight is your best chance to try the 100hours.online beginners' stargazing challenges. If you spot the Moon, join in and put a marker on our map.

✨ Do you know anyone on the island of Ireland who might get a gap in their clouds tonight? Let them know about our beginners' stargazing challenges at 100hours.online
Screen capture of weather map of the island of Ireland. Most of it is clouded out, but there are gaps in places including around Drogheda, south of Dublin, and to the north and south of Belfast.

I love it that everyone loves a #supermoon. Tonight is the night so #DoLookUp!

Fine print: this astronomical event comes with a expectation-management disclaimer:
*The Supermoon is only 15% brighter than a normal full moon and I personally can not tell the difference 🤔
*Every moon is SUPER🔭🥳

If you've got clear skies, go outside and wave at our neighbour who is looking particularly stunning tonight. And if you have them, root out the binoculars to get a closer look at the grey maria: ~3.5 billion years ago these were seas of molten lava 🤓 #supermoon 🔭🧪
A moonlit beach with ripples in the sand. The water is reflecting the moon light with tiny fluffy clouds in the sky. In the foreground is the wooden breaker and a red metal marker with the number 2 on the top of it.

Do you know anyone in the areas forecast to be clear tonight? Let's see if we can get more pins on our stargazing map! 100hours.online

(When I used to play, people frequently came up to ask me what instrument it was, because they didn't recognise the sound)
jennyshipway.bsky.social
I don't know who needs to hear this, but please stop blowing that poor recorder so hard. It doesn't 'just sound like that', that squawkiness is the sound of it calling out for help.

Have you spotted a gap in the clouds? We're extending our 100 Hours stargazing event to 10 October (the end of World Space Week) to give everyone the best chance to join in. Keep looking up and visit 100hours.online to complete four simple stargazing challenges and put your marker on the map

Or they've taken the tracker out of the glider for some reason? Altitude might be a bit off - it could be on the ground or in a building???

Look up tonight! Some of us will be lucky and have little gaps in the clouds. Will you be able to complete any of the 100 Hours challenges? 100hours.online
Advert with the 100 Hours logo, url, and strapline "Look up!". The image is a photo of a woman looking up from a suburban environment. She's holding a takeaway coffee cup. It's a great photo that sums up what we want, which is for people to enjoy the sky from wherever they happen to be. Thanks to Mission Astro for letting us use it.

I'll be at Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth tonight talking about 100 Hours at their public observing event. I've heard the view through their telesope is AMAZING (and I heard that from a keen amateur astronomer who's played with a lot of telescopes) normanlockyer.com

Saturday night looks most likely for our stargazing challenges! Keep an eye on that forecast ... 100hours.online

I found it because I talked the problem through to bf, reducing options, saying 'it should be in here', then looking in the cupboard as imagined through his eyes. Brains are weird.
jennyshipway.bsky.social
I found it!!!! It was in one of the first places I looked (in a cupboard alongside wrapping paper and rolled up anatomical wall charts) BUT I had totally forgotten it was inside its cardboard box - I was looking for black canvas
jennyshipway.bsky.social
on the plus side, those things are SO MUCH fun to pull out of people's faces with tweezers
jennyshipway.bsky.social
I will look everywhere anyone suggests, even if I've already looked there.

Ok so if you needed to clear/declutter your flat and had to hide a 100 Hours roll-up banner somewhere, where would YOU put it? I'm all out of ideas. Am just about ready to open up the sofabed to make sure it's not hidden inside.

The 100 Hours map is going bonkers with people picking their marker and setting their location to get ready for the event! By pre-registering you can save doing it on the night, but also get us super excited to see you popping up on the map. Join in at 100hours.online
Screengrab of the UK/Ireland map from the 100 Hours app. The UK is almost all covered with pins showing where people have registered their locations, from the tip of Cornwall to Elgin, and three pins on the Isle of Mann. Only four in Ireland so far though - come on Ireland, you're part of it too this year!
