🗓️🚨 Call for Papers: Symposium on Post-Civil-War Societies. Join the CivilWars team at @helsinkiuni.bsky.social in September 2025 for our next event. The symposium will focus on the (comparative) history of "post-civil-war societies". Deadline 10 March. Details: civil-wars.eu/workshops/ #civilwars
The UCD Centre for War Studies and the Helsinki Collegium of Advanced Studies are pleased to co-host a one-day symposium to take place in Helsinki on Friday, 19 September 2025.

The symposium will focus on the (comparative) history of „post-civil-war societies“, bringing together panels on themes such as “cultural demobilisation”, “memory”, “transitional justice” and “exile”. The main geographical and chronological focus will be on those European societies that experienced episodes of civil war between the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 and the end of the Greek Civil War in 1949 but we also welcome proposals from those working on non-European civil wars, such as the ones that occurred in Mexico and China. Particularly welcome will be proposals for papers that open up new comparative and / or transnational perspectives on the history of civil wars.
