There have been some good posts on what "wide events" instrumentation is but not as many on how to go about it, what attributes you should add, or how to work with OpenTelemetry

I put everything I've learned in the last few years into one guide jeremymorrell.dev/blog/a-pract...
A Practitioner's Guide to Wide Events | Jeremy Morrell
The existing articles on Wide Events define the concept well but leave the implementation details to the reader.

AOC is so damn good at messaging
AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

I just released my video about the engine (and game) I've been working on.

The engine is based on dynamic SDFs, and the video describes how it works and what it makes possible.

Link in the reply!

This is my first YouTube video and it took forever - please repost!

If, like me, SDFs tickle your brain real good, this YouTube video is a delight youtu.be/il-TXbn5iMA?...

w2kitchen is the best cooking YouTube channel I’ve found in a long time! Such great explanations and very little filler, and a focus on home cooks. I want to make so many things from here youtu.be/fQOiLBjR8lY?...

Great thread with interesting ideas

As in so many things, the work to make agents better would also help humans. So much context lives in our heads (and a lot of my utility as an engineer stems from my ability to find or re-derive context). Capturing it systematically would likely help humans too
I can totally see this being generated in real time. if you look at what Zed said they're moving onto next in their August fundraising announcement, they're not letting on much but I suspect they have a similar vision

I really like this analogy. CNC is a whole new domain with a lot of new skills to pick up vs traditional machining, but almost all of the skills picked up in a career of traditional machining are still incredibly valuable with the increased automation
This is the "CNC machine" for software engineering. It takes the "raw" power of a model and allows you to apply it with the precision, memory, and behavioral guardrails that you, as the human architect deem necessary.

sort of along my recent repost, the issue at hand has been the same since the dawn of capitalism: when automation increases productivity, who gets to capture the value of that productivity increase?

the beef is not with the productivity. it's with the value capture

i think a core beef that i have with a lot of this "automation is bad" sentiment lately is that there is no inherent moral good in laboring

the story of humanity is one of invention, where we improve our conditions by building things that help us do more things more easily
I've been sitting with the discomfort here a bunch, and to me this is it, right? What is being suggested is that I engage in an act of self-flagellation (resolving thousands of lines of merge conflicts by hand) because the richest man in the world uses some of the same underlying tech to peddle CSAM
This is a miracle. Do you know how many hours of work this saves me

I do like that the LLM-isms push people to develop and write in their own weird voice to distinguish themselves.

A bit like the invention of photography freeing the painter from naturalistic portraits.

This story is going under the radar, but apparently xAI is continuing to generate CSAM and violent non-consensual sexual imagery on its own website. All they did was apply filters for CSAM on X. www.wired.com/story/grok-i...
Grok Is Generating Sexual Content Far More Graphic Than What's on X
A WIRED review of outputs hosted on Grok’s official website shows it’s being used to create violent sexual images and videos, as well as content that includes apparent minors.

it took a white woman dying for this to happen, rather than the myriad deaths of Latine people in ICE facilities, but it's still a relief to see the opinion of legislators is changing.
There's honestly been some pretty good news coverage tonight on TV regarding today's events. It's not a coincidence.

Like half a dozen prominent Democrats finally came out this afternoon and said ICE is terrorist trash led by a secretary who should be impeached and it flipped the whole narrative.
