Hey MSP people who want to join the MSP feed, here are instructions! If you ever DM'd or tagged Ian asking to be added, that won't work -- you need to fill out the form.
Here’s a link to the instructions! Note that turnaround is not immediate, this is a volunteer labor of love 💕
Hi! Update to how you join the Minneapolis and St. Paul feed bc my screenshot was out of date. 1. Fill out the Google Form (linked in next post). 2. Wait 48-72 hours, maybe longer (vol-led so we're on it but not asap). 3. Then you have to add yourself to the feed.

this is me cringing in "has had data security and privacy training at Google" where we were taught that any access to user data without a damn good documented reason was a firing offence, and ❌❌❌ looking up yourself, friends, or family.

every single break-glass access? documented in triplicate.
My father in law was a homicide detective. We dropped off snacks during one night shift.

He showed us around.

"This is the computer for the background checks. Let me show you how it works - what's your social security number?"
You ever date a girl with a protective-but-affable-but-jokester dad? Because that's how I learned what a shotgun sounds like *and* what a dummy grenade looks like.

one thing you don't see developers complaining about is how LLMs were trained on their work

it *was*, of course, but as a cohort devs are willing participants - and the criticisms about AI replacing creatives just don't really land

(generalising, ofc)

Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.

Fun fact #3, the California state legislature could, if they wanted, pass a bill next week that imposed a 75% sales tax or use tax against hotels and car rental agencies who provide GSA rates to out-of-state federal law enforcement. They could aggressively enforce it.

Fun fact #6, States have the power to enforce their traffic laws against private rental vehicles whose plates have been removed or altered.

A Hertz rental driven by an ICE agent is not a G.O.V. it's a private vehicle

Local governments can offer bonuses to tow truck drivers for enforcing this law.

I’m sure that will go well:

Two different "wine moms" I work with have dropped their emergency contact info to the company slack in the last couple days because, to quote one of them, "I'm going to the protest tonight and if i get shot, I want you to know why I missed work."

This letter was just posted by the chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North/South Dakota:

“Our Nation is a sovereign government and our members are not immigrants. We are not subject to immigration enforcement on our own lands.”

You don't have to break the law to go on tax strike, remember the charitable tax deduction, if you literally give as much as you owe in taxes to 501c3s that support the causes you care about, up to 50% of your AGI, you will get a refund of your withholdings. IANAA, obviously talk to your accountant.
the direction this is heading is fundamentally a showdown over tax dollars and withholding of funds from the federal govt to the states, and from the populace of the states to the federal govt.

The opposition is claiming the social media ban is a failure because kids have bypassed it and also they haven't put in enough mental health funding to support kids.

If only people could have predicted this when the opposition helped along by News Corp pushed hard for a social media ban.
