if you're a developer making a service for other people to use, labeller or not, you should be aware of how your service could be used as a vector for harassment and try to mitigate for that as much as possible. sometimes you make a torment nexus and don't even know it.

The Post laid off seemingly the remaining of their liberal-leaning staff members on Opinion last Thursday, when some of them were observing Yom Kippur.

Interestingly, Link's profile can be seen right now on the Red Dwarf social-app fork, which uses Constellation and direct PDS access: reddwarf.whey.party/profile/did:...

Thanks for doing this; there's just so much bad faith misinterpretation going around right now, mixed in with the legitimate criticism and feedback.

John Looney of Crusoe was discussing this at his morning keynote yesterday at #SREcon - describing "clean energy parks" where power consumers and producers gather, similar to the previous generation of network connectivity hubs.

Apparently a giant wind farm being built in western IE for this too.

If you live in a place where flowing electrons are functionally free via like, trivial-to-access geothermal or something maybe you should be a data centers YIMBY so they get built there instead of somewhere they'll drive demand for fossil fuel plants or whatever. Otherwise, like, what are you doing
opinionhaver.bsky.social
no super-strong feelings about data centers generally, they appear to be a light-industrial land use with a typical bundle of positive/negative externalities, but imo it would be a mistake for YIMBY orgs to get hooked into advocating overly for them. Narrower focus on housing/transit is good imo

ICE arresting nannies while they’re caring for kids in Chicagoland parks is quite a scene. Once again, fuck ICE.

I got a very specific lecture about this when I got my NEXUS card a decade ago. Only meetings. No coding.

If a person wants to work while in the USA, unless that "work" is very specific types of activity such as "attending meetings", they need a visa in a category that permits work like an H1-B, not a tourist visa.

You and I might think things like "but my work has nothing to do with the USA" 5/

While not at all trivial to do, Blacksky is in the fortunate position to have the technical talent and money in the bank to make this a trivial decision to do this week

This is different from our community.blacksky.* API which is going on hold (less Barnes & Nobles, more invite-only Book Club) 8/11

I've been radio silent because I'm in the process of standing up an app.bsky.* API server (aka app-view aka Barnes & Nobles). This is an expensive and time intensive operation that I didn't want to do until it was necessary.
It's a fail-safe not a differentiator in experience, but important 7/11

Using AJ Link as an example, his current situation is that Bluesky, the Barnes & Nobles of atproto have banned him from their stores and essentially blackballed him from the publishing industry.

Fortunately for AJ Link, we've kept all his manuscripts safe and sound right where he left them. 3/11

TL; DR
In the next 5 business days you should be able to go to Link's page on blacksky.community and see his posts and he'll be able to post but people using the bsky mobile apps won't see it.
After that we'll get Blacksky-only posts up.
After that we can talk about purging bsky mod tools

use for classification vs potential use for training is something that needs very very very clear communication, yes.

The way we are experiencing this is as a genuine "fuck you guys" moment, where the level of "fuck you" increases with your level of transness and POCness

And I'm sure there are folks on the team who don't feel this way about it but this is how the failed comms strategy is working, publicly

Slides for my #SREcon talk on Fast, Reproducible Builds with Docker Bake: drive.google.com/file/d/1g-H6...

Fun fact, 42% of our codebase (by LOC) was written this year, and we're only 9 months in! And yes, we're doing 2x builds & merges per week with only 50% more devs, thanks, AI & fast builds!
git-of-theseus plot showing 600k out of 1.4M lines of code last touched in 2025, then 300k, 200k, 100k lines of code respectively surviving from 2024, 2023, and 2022. the remaining 1/4 of the codebase was composed prior to 2021.

This lurid headline is about British tourists no longer getting away with overstaying in Schengen. Or being 'illegals', as it's often called in the UK.
