An "A-level standard of English" ≠ an A-level in English.

Possibly we're looking at level B2 but the announcement is lacking sufficient detail to appraise the policy.

So far, this appears to be all about tough-sounding headlines. We should expect better from this government.

I asked my mum: stopped using it because it took up loads of space in the hall and only a small proportion of the class could go on it at once.

You need a GCSE grade 4 in English to do an apprenticeship. It's a compulsory subject till 16 with resits through KS5.

Wonder where the English teachers will be coming from.

Anyway good luck to everyone who’s gone full circle from ‘everyone must read Dryden’ curriculums (Gove 2010) to ‘bin English degrees’ (Badenoch 2025), hope the years of rote learning poetry felt worth it

Between the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them
