Imagine someone says every time you run a lap I'll hand you $5. You start running laps, but they hand you only $2 each lap or even $1 or $0. How long do you keep running?

Now imagine the $5 is dopamine, the lap is basically any task, & you've been under-rewarded this way all your life.
That's ADHD.

I am thrilled to report that my 16yo asked me this morning if I'd like to play Halo this weekend. I played it cool and said yeah, that would be great! while inside I was jumping around like YES PLEASE YES YES YES YES 😄😄😄

I know a bunch of us have or had LJ accounts. If that's you, consider it a 2026 goal to get your content there backed up elsewhere.

Scroll to the top of the thread quoted below for fuller info, but in a nutshell: the signs are on the horizon that LJ could be going away soon and with little notice.
Please share this with anyone you know who still uses LiveJournal. It could collapse next week; it could last another two years. I think "next week" is probably too fast and "two years" is probably pushing it, a lot; that's my only prediction.

Well, those were some lovely fogworks at the Space Needle this year. ☁️🎆☁️

Happy New Year!

Anyone want to double check a short Spanish translation? (Central American dialect, not European Spain dialect)
I'd like to leave a gratuity and thank you note for our yard maintenance crew, most of whom are not English speakers, and my college Spanish is rusty and probably outdated.

I had this whole post roughed out in my head about the pattern tech editing stuff and how I'm in that pinch point of needing experience to get work yet needing work to get experience, blahblahblah

but also, it's been holidays and stuff so I haven't had time to do anything workish

ugh. overwhelmed.

Time spent today fine-tuning my stitch counting spreadsheet: about 2 hours and change
Time spent today actually working out the pattern’s stitch counts: 0 minutes

I… might have a teeny problem with priorities here. 😂

📚 Sci-fi fans, here's a holiday treat: The Rook is a delightful read along the lines of a mashup of Torchwood and MI-6, with a mystery that hooks you right from the first paragraph. It's the first in a series following members of Her Majesty's Supernatural Secret Service... the Checquy.
For the month of December, USA readers can pick up The Rook on their kindle for just $2.99!

I have now stayed up Way Too Late trying to decide which stitch combo I want to use in a cuff on a fingerless mitten. This is the peril of crocheting late at night after the ADHD meds have worn off. 🤪🧶🙃

I've started appending "-ai" to all my google searches and it's a breath of fresh air not to have to see the LLM slop at the top of the results

So much so that I'm toying with the idea of making an extension or something that will automatically append it. (as if I'm not busy enough already, LOL)

There's no reason to follow Aaron Rupar when Phil Lewis exists. If Rupar posts anything you need to see, someone who does a better job aggregating breaking news will repost it to your feed.

I am kicking ass making Thanksgiving dinner this year and for once I'm not being modest about it. So far everything's on schedule and we haven't had to do any big pivots. The turkey might even be done a little early which actually is a good thing in this case.
Probably jinxed myself now but oh well.

Hey! I’m delighted to share that we are set now - thank you!! ❤️😊
and thanks as well to those who boosted the signal, we greatly appreciate it.
This is a long shot, but anyone have a ticket to either the Bellevue or Federal Way showing of Shattered: Battle for Dream Island Again they’re willing to sell? Both are sold out (we found out about it late) and my 12yo is the kind of devastated where he’s heartbroken but trying not to show it.

Unpacking is such a satisfying game and the storyline is really lovely. Definitely worth taking a look.
If you're not a Steam person, it's available on mobile platforms too!
Cozy Quest is one of our favorite events on Steam each year—a great opportunity to find great games, both new and old. Unpacking is also 60% off if you haven't picked up a copy yet! #CozyQuest2025

This week's theme for #CrochetAway is goals, those projects you hope or plan to make someday.

One of mine is this Feather Wing Shawl from CraftyIntentions. It would be great to wear to Norwescon or a similar event. Maybe next year... or the year after that... 🧶

The school in question is an Infant School, which means kids ages 4 to 7, approximately.

...hey fellow parents, what's the success rate on telling your kids that age to NOT sing a particular song?
I'm sure this will go well. 🤣🤣
