A federal judge has said using AI in law enforcement reports can lead to inaccuracies and erode trust. With my bill SB 524 signed into law, California will require disclosures if AI was used in law enforcement reports, improving accuracy & accountability.
Judge's footnote on immigration agents using AI raises accuracy and privacy concerns
A federal judge has called out an immigration enforcement agent for using artificial intelligence to write the narrative of a use-of-force report as just a small part of a scathing opinion that…

Tomorrow, @seiuca.org President David Huerta will go to court after peacefully exercising his First Amendment rights at an ICE raid in LA when he was tackled and detained. We will not be intimidated. I stand with Huerta, working families, immigrants, & democracy.

November is Trans Awareness Month. At a time when trans rights are under attack nationally, California has been leading the way in advancing rights. I am proud to stand with the LGBTQ community in approving legislation to protect gender-affirming care and patient privacy.

California’s efforts to preserve our offshore natural resources has been vital in protecting local economies and advancing our climate goals. I strongly oppose offshore drilling, which undermines the progress we have made. We can meet our energy needs without risking oil spills.

It’s deeply concerning that the Trump Administration is suing California for requiring precisely what the FBI is urging. SB 627 protects both the public and legitimate officers. (1/2)

John Beam was a beloved member of the Oakland community who for decades inspired young athletes to achieve their full potential. I am shocked that his life was cut short in a heinous act of violence. I take solace in knowing that those he mentored will continue his legacy.

Today I hosted a hearing on the federal impacts on CalFresh, which 5.5 million Californians rely on. Because of Trump's actions, 395,000 Californians could lose coverage. I am committed to protecting communities from devastating long-term cuts to SNAP. sd07.senate.ca.gov/news/395000-...

From Laney College to Skyline High, my heart is with our city that has been shaken by gun violence, and I pray that the victims quickly recover. I am committed to working with regional partners in continuing efforts to decrease crime and ensure that our schools are safe spaces.

The fact that the FBI had to issue a bulletin calling on ICE to identify themselves shows why we need laws like SB 627 to protect the public and promote transparency and accountability.

As Trump mimics Marie Antoinette hosting luxury dinners, he can't stand the fact that the courts are stopping him from starving tens of millions of Americans. Trump's cruelty knows no bounds. California will make sure that CalFresh recipients get their benefits in full.

The shutdown is not stopping Congress from threatening states' rights while harming public safety. H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Mandate, would let people from other states ignore state laws and carry guns without a permit. I call on Congress to oppose this dangerous legislation.

Dozens of East Bay residents, including my office, volunteered at the @accfb.bsky.social today. I am inspired to see so many people step up and give their time to support those in need. This is what community looks like.

Californians have sent a clear message with the passage of Prop 50 – when democracy is under attack we will stand up and fight back. I am grateful to Californians who have used their voice and vote to object to Trump’s attempts to rig elections.
Tuesday capped off a whirlwind, hyper-partisan two-and-a-half-month campaign for one of the most expensive ballot measures in state history. Here are four things to know about how Prop. 50 will affect California, Newsom and Trump. bit.ly/4oRV8M2

Millions of Californians are at risk of going hungry as CalFresh and other federal benefits are delayed. But we don’t wait — we act.

Step up and support your neighbors: volunteer, donate, or spread the word. Together, we can help those in need.

Healthcare facilities must be safe spaces that respect the privacy of patients. Thank you @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov for informing healthcare providers of their responsibilities under SB 81, helping people receive medical care without fear.
We’re releasing new guidance to CA healthcare providers to ensure compliance with #SB81, a new law by Senator Jesse Arreguin to enhance privacy protections for immigrant patients and ensure that they can receive healthcare they need without fear.
